You know, it really is sad
This community didn't need to die. Especially since Chat Island was separate from the game in the first place, and Maple was not the draw for most users of /6/.
I'm feeling nostalgic tonight, and have been reading old threads. There were moments in the past when people would freak out over [i]a few minutes[/i] of site downtime. The contrast with what we have now is astounding.
Remember when we sat on the forum all day, constantly refreshing like crazy people? When there was a new thread every few minutes?
I didn't bring that up to be sentimental, or to pull the age-old [i]"remember the time when."[/i] I brought it up to really put things into perspective. The users were passionate, and people like that don't just leave overnight.
What do you think happened?

@sunshine443 i joined a chatroom with several of the *better and cooler* Basilers and thats all I need.
I think the site's been dead since a bit before I joined that, so...before spring 2016. Cause for a few years, I visited this site EVERY day and posted on multiple threads, but eventually there were just not enough new threads to post on (2016). That's when I considered it dead.
But was the site not semi-active just a few months ago?
Going from that to the way it is now, with like 1 post a day, is extreme even by sparse standards.
if you love something, you'll learn to let it go. i loved maplestory and i only realized this as i grew older. coming home from 6th grade and thinking life was tough and logging onto that sweet, sweet melody of ellinia echoing in my ears. happier times back then were so innocent and full of mystery, now i still feel happiness but it comes in different waves.
i guess i still come back to basil once in a while because even if an iota of that feeling i had as
a child can be emulated, im going to hang on to it
