Going to Japan for a month!
What should I do/see/bring/do/find/talk to/eat/blah/do? Huh? Huh? WHAT?
[b]Update 6/19[/b]: Leaving tonight, technically tomorrow but I'll be working till 1 and staying up till departure, and I'll tell keep yall updated and how it goes.

The trains are okay as long as you're not on them during peak hours...unless you like being squished like a pancake.

but in general you should check out the food (ramen ftw), visits both touristy places and local places (like where the locals would usually go), ride the train (idk if you would kike this but since the nz doesn't have much trains I enjoyed riding the trains everyday while I was in Japan)

Get some of the souvenirs there
Experience the wonders of food purchased in a Japanese convenience store.

EDIT: Will also back up above poster's suggestion of okonomiyaki...
Don't be afraid to visit small places to eat, you don't have to go to shopping centres and what not.
I had Okonomiyaki in Kyoto in some small (seemingly family run) restaurant on a side road and really enjoyed the whole experience
