Where do people buy puppies

Where do people buy puppies generally? I don't really want to adopt an older dog yet there don't seem to be any stores that sell puppies in my area (do dog stores even exist or is that just in movies?). Is Craigslist the place to go for these sort of things?

Also, assuming the puppy still needs shots and stuff, are there ones that all dogs should generally get?

There are adoption fairs every once in a while, and there are plenty of puppies to adopt, as well as old dogs.

Depends where you live
Here in Canada, or at least where I live, adopting a puppy is almost as complicated as adopting a human

Adopt, don't shop! The world doesn't need more puppies. Trust me, we have more than enough as it is. I'm sure you could find a puppy at a shelter. And as a bonus, they generally have all their shots already, and are fixed and chipped. I would suggest adopting a younger, 1-3 year old dog, because they're usually trained and a little less work.

adopt a dog, don't buy one. people that breed dogs are just adding to the overpopulation problem. when you get the dog the shots that it needs, get it fixed so it doesn't have babies and have them put a microchip in it. if your dog ever escapes and a shelter picks it up, then can scan the dog and figure out that it belongs to you. also consider getting a collar with a dogtag on it with your contact info on it.

you seem like a first time dog owner and in all honesty the worst thing you could do as a first time owner is get a puppy. get a young dog from your local animal shelter instead.

Go to animal rescues or kill shelters. Those pets need a home. Especially at kill shelters since they are only given a few days to get adopted or rescued before getting killed.
I wouldn't go to a pet shop. They're really expensive also. Most animal rescues keep the puppies up to date with their vaccinations. Some kill shelters do it too but not a lot. There are some fairly priced places. Craigslist shouldn't even be an option though. Some are too pricey, some were treated horribly, some has traits that the previous owner doesn't tell you about.

Remember, a puppy is a lot of work. You have a lot of work, including vet visits, training, etc. I'm not gonna lie, you might even lose sleep. I woke up at 1-3am every night to take our little puppy to use the bathroom. My husband would take her out before physical training and work.

Don't go to a "Puppy Mill" store anyway. They've got really bad reputations for the way they treat animals.
Check out Animal Rescue organizations on your area (Google "animal rescue" and your city/town name). They may have puppies that were brought in by people who couldn't handle a houseful of new puppies and it would be doing a good thing to give one of them a decent home.
And yes, the American Humane Society probably has a branch in your area you could check for puppies also.

There are definitely a number of vaccinations puppies should have. The places you find with puppies can probably tell you what's needed, if not I'd worry about how reputable they are.
Also you should have a puppy spayed or neutered so they don't add to the animal overpopulation problem. Again, that info should be available at Animal Rescues or the Humane Society.

I know on the Humane Society websites, you can find puppies and kittens that are a few months old.

Do your research before getting a puppy/dog. they're a lot of work and you have got to have the time and patience when caring for them.
