Buccaneer

I think its about time I handed over the guide

Hello, everyone. I've been struggling with this decision for a while, but I believe I've come to a conclusion; I simply don't have the will to manage the sticky'd guide anymore. I have other ambitions and games which occupy my time, much better than MapleStory has, and I've attempted to avoid that decision by using other issues as a sort of excuse; while my computers do lack space, and my Internet lacks speed, I simply don't put in the effort to even attempt an update. It's not that I don't care, as I think this forum deserves an adequate guide, and so I think the correct thing for me to do is step down.

I haven't spoken with the moderator staff, but I'm hoping that if someone here is willing to take over, that the sticky could simply be transferred to them. Either that, or if they wish, write a completely new, better guide; the last guide had been outdated for quite some time, and given my situation, I'd rather not apply a temporary fix by saying I'll update it later, and instead give it to someone who can update it consistently. I don't say this easily, but my time managing it is simply no longer spent well.

I know I haven't been around these forums in quite some time, at least post wise, although I've lurked a little in the shadows. I don't know who would be willing to accept, what I've viewed, as a caretaker's position for the guide, which I've always attempted to have run by the community, rather than an individual. While this isn't a job, of sorts, it is something that I shan't forget, and out of respect for the position, I must step down; unless nobody else wishes to take the flame, in which case I will, reluctantly, attempt to patch up the guide, but it will be inadequate in the long-run. I'd rather not repeat what happened to the former guide, where it was left in disrepair for quite some time before I, along with others, contributed to the new, better guide; so I ask those who still play fervently and who are brimming with knowledge to take my place as caretaker, and to assume a role I am no longer fit for.

So, there is but one question which remains; who, among you, is willing to take my place, and uphold the values I have attempted to portray? I know not who to give, as blunt as it may be, the guide to, and I would detest allowing it to languish with friends who may, or may not, allow it to deteriorate even further, which is why I post this, and why I hope those among you who's ambition still burns will be willing to accept the call, to continue where I have left off and, most importantly, assist others in the way I, and others, have done.

I really need to start using [sarcasm] and [/sarcasm] on the Internet, unless that was a sarcastic post, in which case I'll ask you to use them. It was a joke, mate; maybe I'll be back someday, but with how homogenized Maple seems to be getting, I doubt it. One of my favorite things about Buccs is that they didn't have any skill ripoffs pre-Big Bang or post Big Bang, and only starting leeching some after mutiny, and now they're apparently getting more, like Flash Jump; it's just... bah. Too linear for me.

I'm sure I'll miss most of you too; I really do cherish the relationships I've had here, and they will hold a special place in my heart. I mean, I don't mind still talking to people from Basil, but ironically, I'm actually kind of quiet outside of forums or real-life, so I'm not sure what that'd accomplish; nevertheless, I'll miss you too, Shade, it's been fantastic, but I just can't upkeep the guide properly anymore.

Ah, Takeback3r... I'll always cherish the time we've spent together, even if practically all of them involved debates about the viability of various concepts. Hopefully they do, if this transfer ever manages to go through; at this rate, I'll feel lucky if I get any sort of replacement, and I really can't vouch for how they'll do, but I'm sure they will. I've always thought the guide was run by the community, and simply had me as a caretaker, so that's not too much of a problem.

Oh wow, Shade, I was a cool guy? Glad to know I've either suddenly changed genders, or that I happen to have become ridiculously lame out of the blue. Thanks a lot... (Not but seriously, thanks, everyone, Shade included; best of wishes to you all as well.)

I have to admit, I haven't been as active as I was back in November 2012 for MapleStory. I guess parts of us change over time (and like you said, other games and MMO's have been keeping me busy).

Best of luck Tricks. You were a pretty cool guy.

Still waiting on a reply to the Ticket... I knew Basil mods and such were slow, but if they're this slow they really need to look into getting some more staff, because it's been over a month now, and I'd expect them to at least have sent some sort of reply at this point, beyond a PM from a moderator which was a reply to mine.

I would help but i just came back after 9months and im really outdated about everything.

Sad to see more and more of the older generations, but i guess it has to happen eventually.

Well, contacted a moderator and apparently submitting a Ticket is the way to go, so it's just a matter of time until it's hopefully looked at and the change is done, although clearly, they need some more efficient Ticket managing due to how long this is taking... I can comprehend it because the staff is so small, but with a backlog like this it seems like they could use a few people people to trudge through it. In any case, it seems like it's a waiting game from this point onward, much to my dismay...

Well, I've sent in a ticket under "Other" and just waiting on a reply; if it I don't get one within a week, I may need to attempt and contact the moderators directly. That being said, feel free to start working right now, even if it's not "officially" yours yet, I'll be handing it over you to, Elevate, and I have confidence that you and Phase will be doing quite well. Hopefully it shan't take too long to make the change official, but I digress; it's nice to have not one, but two people willing to take over for me, in a sense.

I'm fine with that, just PM me if you need any help with the guide.

One thing though: I dunno when you plan to start updating the guide, but I won't be able to get on over the Summer (in 1 month) because I will be out of the US.
I might be able to help out with some areas, but I won't be able to test anything out on my character >.>
It's not an issue I was a little misleading. Yes I would update the guide to the current patch in GMS that involves Buccaneers from % changes to new skills and removed skills. Along with adding any other information that is needed for the Buccaneer.
In that case, if Phase doesn't want to contest you on that mark, or thinks he could manage it better, then I would be glad to pass down the sticky to both of you; considering how you're the only two who seem to want this responsibility. When Phase responds and we get this sorted out, since to be completely honest I'm not sure if one of you thinks the other is more adept, or if either of you wishes to take the guide more than the other, I'll contact a mod and see how we can go about transferring it.

In either scenario, I want to thank both of you for being willing to put in the effort I can no longer contribute; hopefully, you can make the guide grow beyond the shambles I've left it in, into what it deserves to be.

Creating something from nothing is always a tad more difficult than responding to questions, since the former usually allows you to either elaborate on previous points or direct attention to them, which facilitates in enhancement and creation; it's why I'd rather hand the guide over, since someone could enhance what is there and expand on it, rather than be forced to create from scratch.

I mean this with the utmost respect, but answering questions is something I think many attempt to do, and I know both of you do it well; the problem is that questions alone will not advance the guide as the game goes on, nor will it be able to update the guide on it's own. This is why I was searching for a caretaker, of sorts; someone to update it and manage it, rather than just, and I don't mean this in the wrong way, answer questions. I certainly appreciate the assistance, but unfortunately, unless I misunderstood your motives, it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

Pretty much same as above. I've been quite busy lately and haven't been nearly as active as I was a year or two ago, both on basil and in game. I wouldn't mind helping out with parts of the guide and giving my opinions though. I'm just not too good at making stuff from nothing -> I prefer to answer questions haha
I'm pretty late and all to say this, but damn, it was nice knowing you. Will hope all you strive for does well.
Considering how nobody's actually contacted me about taking the guide out of my care, I'd hardly call it late; I appreciate the warm words, as always, and hopefully you can all continue to strive as you currently are. In any case, since I've yet to find a successor to the position of caretaker, it seems like I may very well be forced to provide some sort of update, although I really hope I don't need to, as I don't have the will to adequately tend to the guide anymore; someone else would do much better, and hopefully one such person is willing to step up to the plate, preferably, soon.

Tricks, your Bucc guide seriously saved my butt during late 3rd/4th job

I still come by and read it for tips, I hope you find someone worthy enough to take your place as guide caretaker. It is a huge job but I know someone will step up to this task.

Good Luck man.

I truly appreciate the kind words; I'll probably come back to Maple, at some point, but it will be a casual game to me, if that. Chances are that if I do come back, it will simply be as a sort of mentoring role to newer players, and it's possible that I'm inadequate to assist them with my out-dated gear. I even see some familiar faces and names, which is nice; it's glad to see that not everyone has quit, or at the very least, I still know some oldies around here.

At this point in time, there's still nobody who has asked to take the reigns, either in private messages or on this thread, so hopefully someone will stand up soon; as I said, in the worst case scenario, I may be able to scrounge together a few updates, with third-party information, but it will not be adequate. At best, if nobody wants to take over full 'ownership', and I detest using such a word for something I believe the community runs, I'd be glad to assume the role of manager, in a sense, and simply update the guide via what the community knows. Of course, that's inefficient and selfish of me to attempt and remain involved, but if need be, that could also be a course of action; hopefully it shan't come to that, but once again I digress...

If a potential caretaker wishes to speak with me, then this thread or a private message would do; whichever they prefer, really. I simply hope that the guide may stand tall for quite some time, and continue to assist those, both old and new, who can then make the guide even better by contributing; that's always been what I've attempted to do, so it would be fantastic if someone would be willing to take over my role in that affair.
