My first interview in like 4 years
Ive worked at 1 factory for roughly 4+ years now and i have an interview on Friday at a better factory that would immediately pay me about $2.50-$3.00+ hourly better.
I think i will get the job, but until i know i got it i will be a little stressed/anxious on the inside.
I need the job because if i stay where i work now; i will always be trapped just above minimum wage; be unappreciated, and mad/stressed out.
I work too hard for this barely above minimum wage thing and deserve better pay, cant get it where i work, so i have to elsewhere.
Is there anything you could say would either help or hinder me to get the job?
I should get it because ive kept my current job a long time, im a reliable worker (i dont miss work hardly ever, maybe a day or two the whole year), and i work lots of overtime when im asked or know its available, and i also don't have problems working with anybody .
But, like i said, i will probably still secretly be concerned until i know i actually have the job.

Do you have any degree? If not, why you decided to choose another path?
@mysticalmage: well the job im at has its pluses and it used to be a better job than it is now (in very many ways, but to put it simply; they weren't putting pressure on people over tiny problems and i used to be able to work 70 hour weeks; now im usually lucky to work 1 extra 10 hour shift a week)
but since im in New York State things are getting worse between minimum wage going up every year, and the factory that im working at trying to do better for themselves without paying anybody too much above minimum wage; and i just feel like its a sinking ship; either i can find an opportunity to get a better job; i can get a degree to get a better job; or i can sink along with everybody else.
I havent thought much about extra schooling, but this year ive been considering trade school; but then this opportunity to work at a busy Union Factory job has came along; so its become plan #1; if it doesnt happen i will go to plan #2, as i dont plan on sinking with the ship.
You probably wouldnt believe how many people come and go through the factory i work for; even in just 2 or 3 months; but especially once you go past 2 or 3 years; most people have either went on to something better; or somebody starts a problem with somebody and people get fired.
For me it shows that im willing to put up with a less than ideal situation; i try to make the best of it; and i can adapt to whatever happens; but the company im interviewing for could see it as a bad thing.
They're gonna ask about work experience. One spot, for roughly 4 years, could be bad and good. But you're a reliable worker so that's a plus lol. Make tons of eye contact and be polite during the interview!
Don't say or do anything that is obviously stupid. All that just means is be professional and show as best as you can why you are the right fit for the job. Show how you can benefit the factory/company, not how the company benefits you.

Well.. you can always be a maintenance mechanic or a quality control if you worked at a factory this long. Starting pay for mechanic is 16 and stops at 22.And for Quality Control its 13 but if you move up to USDA its 25 when it stops. All you do is work 12 hours a day but you literally do nothing at all at work. Only downside is the people you work with. They know little English but at least they are very friendly. Easy life, easy money..... just too much overtime.
