Some dude just attacked my car

he punched my window and kicked off my side mirror. A cop was at the intersection and saw it all happen and got the guy. I chose not to press charges because I just got this car and the damage wasn't too major (I just shoved the mirror back on the post), no dents or broken glass. My main question is this though: even though I didn't press charges will the police still try to contact me? Like send me something in the mail?

One of the officers gave me his information in case I change my mind about pressing charges. But will they try to contact me even though I didn't press charges?

also: they still got him in the back of the cop car and said he'll get some road rage violation or whatever just because of what he did regardless of me wanting to press charges or not.

You probably won't hear about it anymore.

Why the hell wouldn't you press charges? Honestly if some random idiot is going to wreck your car then he deserves to pay for it, you're not doing the right thing by letting him go, he has to learn his lesson.
This happened to me in real life a couple days ago
this was real life...

I'm just wondering if it's likely I'll be contacted by mail? I'm 18 by the way. I heard that if they do try to contact me at all it wouldn't be by mail, because I'm 18, instead they'd give me a sopena (or however it's spelled) in person either at my work or my school.

I also heard that since I dropped charges and it's nothing incredibly major (like robbery at gunpoint or murder), that the whole thing is probably already done and away with. Especially if the kid didn't have any record beforehand, which I'm assuming not since he seemed to be roughly the same age as me.

can I get any sort of confirmation on these please?

Press charges. Get your stuff fixed without you paying (the majority) for it, and punish some idiot for his idiocy.

That happened to me too. My law abiding driving probably pissed him off. He got off his car and dented my rear fender. He got back on his car quickly and turned right (I was stuck on the lane turning left with 1 lane in the middle). There were no cops. When I was demanding for a look at security cameras around the establishments in the area, each and everyone of them put me through hell just to get a peek. They ultimately didn't let me because of some legal bull that I didn't bother understanding.

Try living in the 510 area code, brother. Then we'll talk.
if you aren't pressing charges then they might still require you to be a witness
I don't want to be a part of it at all any more than what's already happened. I'd be fine if they just let the kid go. I just don't want my dad to find out because even though I didn't do anything he'd still be very pissed off that my car got damaged. Like I said there's no broken glass or dents, and the mirror fits back on almost just fine. I just don't want the police or court to mail me anything or something.

This sounds a lot like GTA V
