The community has changed quite a bit over the years. The amount of rude and selfish players has changed as well.
I'd like to think there are still a few good souls out there. Obviously some people will lie in this thread but it's still interesting to read.
If a complete newb walked up to you and asked for advice, not mesos, what would you do/say?

I usually help people as long as they don't do the whole "mesos plzplzplzpzlplzplz" thing

I would help as long if it is not them begging for mesos.
i usually help a lot of people while I'm in game. I like to think of it like real life. I wouldn't just walk by someone asking for help if I could help them out.
People have been selfish as long as people have existed on the earth. The amount of "selfish" people do not change, it's not a good idea to judge the population based on only a few of your own personal experiences
It depends on the question being asked. If I don't think it is a really stupid or irritating question then I would help.

me: depends with what?
them: how do i get (skill/item/or to place/were to train)?
me: tells them what to do/how to get to/ to the best of my knowledge of maple....

i made alot of friends that way
one of them was a while before bogbang and he accualy became a pro and said i helped him alot and he paid me 75m before bb that was kinda alot
I am always happy to help people out with whatever I can! I remember when I was completely unable to do some things, or simply didn't know about something, and the people with experience would help, and I just felt absolutely amazed that they would take the time to help me out, so I always am happy to help out with anything possible whenever I have the chance!
