Help with purchasing New Laptop

So I'm not a very techy guy, and quite frugal when it comes to buying things. My recent laptop used was a 300+$ Acer laptop. It was thin and lean, all black. Screen was wide and keyboard was nicely spaced out. I'm typing on a Sony VIAO and the keyboard is very small and jammed... Anyways, I was wondering what laptop I should buy online (or instore) if anybody knows good places.
What brand, the functions, the lifespan, the feel/usage, compatablity, versality, DVD usage, components, etc. for a reasonably affordable price. I would say around $150-300+around there... I'm not looking to buy some small mini laptop notebook from Intel... I want one similar to the ACER I had, but a different kind.
Any suggestions, thank you.

What happened to your old one? I'd suggest a Chromebook for web browsing and writing papers but you don't want a small one. Can you tell us the screen size of your old laptop? That'd help a bit seeing how you want one of similar size.

That depends where you live.

I don't guess which states, provinces, or countries Basilers live in.

@YouAzle: I'd say it's risky. I don't trust eBay in general.
@YouAzle: I got a Lenovo Ideapad U310 last year for about $700-$800-ish. It depends. There are laptops that are just as good, if not better, than some that cost a lot more, but you won't be able to find that kind of laptop with a lower budget.
Oh, that's alot lol.
Also, is it a good idea or risky to buy a refurbished/used laptop from ebay online?
@YouAzle: Yeah, I'm not talking about gaming laptops. Cheap laptops are cheap, and they're not gonna last that long, ya know what im sayin. There are no laptop brands that are similar to one another. It's just a round of trial and error within each brand.
MayI ask what kind of laptop do you have and how much you got it for? Yeah I know what you mean, if a product is cheap in price there's a reason, it's probably cheap in quality so it's better to pay more for one that's more durable and quality built... but is it really worth it. i

but I don't plan on downlading games on it, just use for web browsing and documents etc. What are some brands similar to Acer?
