Best way to recover from an ankle sprain?

If you pause at about 2:18, you can see the ankle injury. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xWhxcghlsg
I suffered from a similar ankle injury and was wondering how to recover from it.
There's no pain in my ankle and it's been 3-4 months since I've sprained it. But, the problem is it is still swollen.
Due to my ankle being swollen, it makes it harder for me to make sharp cuts and crossovers in basketball/football.
I went to the doctor and all he gave me was a steroidal injection/Cortisone shot. He said he can't do much more.
I was wondering what the best way to recover from this ankle sprain is.
Did you just admit to playing football and basketball with a sprained ankle? I'm not doctor, but I don't think thats a good way to recover. See a doctor and get some recommendations to physical therapy or something and rest.
If it doesn't hurt then I don't see the problem,.
I've been resting for the past 2 days (the weather is cold).
I sprained my ankle quite badly too. (during sparring about 4-5 months ago) and i guess i'm in a similar position to you. However, my one visibly looks swollen but when you touch it, it feels more like solidified fluid/bone? Got an x-ray no fractures or anything and as mentioned above Doctor said ankle sprains never Fully recover. Still having pains when over-exerting pressure on my ankles, (jumping,kicking etc...). Guess you should just take it lightly rather than risk further injury
No, actually we're in the same exact positions. My ankle also feels like it's my bone. If there is nothing I can do fully recover it, then I'll probably stop trying to fix it after I see the therapist.

@lilyskates
It's swollen and doesn't hurt. But, when I push the ankle I feel bone. So I guess my ankle is rebuilding and becoming stronger?
If it's only a sprain, walk it off, you should be good in a week. No I'm serious, I've only had 2 sprains in my whole life and I've never done anything special for them, and I was fine.

Edit: Oh 4 months. Disregard this...
It's fine. After 2 days, I was back to my regular routine (playing basketball). But, the ankle is swollen and it's prone to future injuries that might occur.

@NonSonoFronz Thanks for the feedback. I do take NSAIDs before certain games/days. But, they don't fully resolve the problem. They do help for an extra 24 hours. Icing doesn't really help that much. I don't know if it's swelling anymore or it is the bone sticking out.
@HDWang92 Was it painful?
@lilyskates I did take an x-ray. He said it may have been fractured. I went a month after the injury happened. I think if I land on my ankle again, it'll probably be injured again.

Oh god, eversion ankle injuries are terrible.
Honestly, if swelling is the issue, the only thing I can think about doing is icing the area and taking some NSAIDs.

Possibly see a chiropractor or an orthopedist since this has been a prolonged injury. Hopefully it isn't too late to do anything.
Don't chiropractors fix more than your back? The one I went to helped me with my ankle when I broke it.
Weird, I thought Chiropractors only fix backs... What exactly did he do?

Why a chiropractor ...?
That's for your back.
@primalfurey All right, will do.
ankles are the type of thing that dont heal properly at first they're gonna give you trouble forever

especially if it was that visibly bad (from the video) you should have went to a physio as soon as it happened.

basically go see a physio, he/she will likely give you some ankle exercises or something.
To be honest, the first 2 days I could barely walk.
But after that it was fine. I went a month after the injury happened because the swelling was still there. The doctor told me I had fractured my ankle. Which I don't really believe because I didn't feel any pain... Thanks, I'll probably google some exercises and see a physio during the week.
