Hey guys. Come in if you know about hyperthyroidism

Guys i really need your help. My general practitioner told me i might have hyperthyroidism. And I looked up symptoms and I can pretty much relate to them. Ive been looking it up but every form of cure will be detrimental or can be. Medication will remove my thyroid. Isn't that bad?
Can you guys please tell me how i can fix this?

Hyperthyroidism or Hypothyroidism? I'm going to assume Hyperthyroidism.

I'm a dietitian so I only know the nutrition side of treatment. Hyperthyroidism may be worsened by an excess of iodine consumption. Too much iodine=over active thyroid gland=hyperthyroidism. So for patient's with iodine, I generally recommend them reduce their iodine intake.

Main sources of iodine is iodised salt, seafood, kelp and seaweed. If you're using iodised salt, simply switch to regular salt. Seaweed also has quite substantial amounts of iodine. Oysters are also significant in Iodine. So a good tip is to avoid iodised salt, seaweed and oysters. Seaweed e.g. sushi nori, konbu, wakame, seaweed flavoured stuff.

In Australia, breads have to have iodine added to them also, apart from organic bread. Although the amount of iodine is usually quite small, and usually insignificant and you shouldn't worry about reducing bread intake.

Hope this helps. Any more questions feel free to ask.

If you don't get treated then it can lead to death. Hypothyroidism causes myxedema coma and death. Hyperthyroidism causes thyroid storm and death.
