Windows 8 is the way to go. The new interface is awesome, and if you don't happen to like it you can just ignore it. Windows 7 was the way to go, but with Win 8 being cheaper and better, feels like a no brainer to me. Have you thought about AMD? You won't get the same performance as say an i7 but you will get plenty good performance for gaming, plus AMD is quite a bit cheaper than Intel. Also, if you are looking to ever upgrade your processor, AMD has been using the AM3+ sockets for a little while and would allow you to upgrade without buying a new motherboard.

@poorpeople: the i7 still feels like a waste for just gaming.

@Ts: you if you're going to wait a bit with building your pc, you could wait for the new Intel core generation to be released, which is in June if I remember correctly.

What kind of peripherals are you planning to use? (ex. Keyboard, mice, speakers, headphones, monitor etc.)

The build itself is good but you might want to buy Windows 7 to get better performance and more multi-purpose performance.

@PoorPeople: An i7 3770K CPU has 4 cores, not 6.

I want to "think" from your perspective as much as possible.

Answer as many questions as you are willing.

What country/state do you live in?
What is your budget?
Would you like to save money or do you want to spend as much of your budget as possible?

Do you already have a monitor, keyboard, and/or mouse? If you have a monitor, what is its screen resolution?
How much hard drive space do you want?
What games do you play or want to play?
What other programs do you use?

Are you interesting in overclocking the processor, the video card, or both?
Do you have any preferences or restrictions for a computer case?

Mention any other special requests you may have. Be detailed.
I'd suggest he'd stick to the 3770k if he is able to utilise all the cores. Although he didn't specify if he does any kind of editing.

If he doesn't edit, switch it out for the 3570k/drop the 680 to a 7970.
Well yeah, it depends on what you (he) needs the computer for, for gaming, I'd go with the i5-3570k.

@Thread starter:
I'd change the CPU fan to:
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065
it just seems a lot more worth the money, and everyone seems to like it.

as for the GPU, it depends on what you want to achieve with the computer.

SSD: I really love my 120 GB corsair force SSD, and I spent about as much as you did on a computer. The only thing I regret with my PC is the amount of space on my SSD. I've only got 2 games, a few small other things and Windows 7 on it, yet I'm almost out of space. What I'm trying to say is: Get one with more space, either 180 or 240 GB.

Case: if you're going to get parts worth 1500 usd you might as well get a nice case.
This one is the one I'd suggest:
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352020
Pretty much everyone gives it 5/5 stars.
Good air flow, plenty of space and it looks clean (but also dull).
If you want a window you could just order the same case with a window:

Okay, since I'm too lazy to edit your PCPartPicker list, change the parts for corresponding parts.
-3x AX7870 2GBD52DHPPV3E
-F3-12800CL9D-8GBRL
-T410-001

EDIT: Here, you're welcome. I couldn't find the 3-way crossfire button, so one of the cards is in custom. It's about $50 higher. Feel free to tweak for your needs.

EDIT2: Don't 3-way crossfire, the card only has one crossfire plug each. I just checked.

8 GB RAM is enough, believe me. My RAM doesn't even exceed 5 GB usage while having Battlefield 3, Maple and internet up. Just buy another 4-8 GB later on if it feels necessary.

I'm also using an Intel core i5-2500k, which is enough for this too. I suggest you swapping to an Intel core i5-3570k.

I'll edit my post after looking at your list a second time.
GENIUS! Where the hell are you gonna put those graphics cards in?
You can fit three of them I think.

OT: You should get LGA2011 or wait for LGA1150 just because.

@Serve: yeah not everybody likes pirating
@Pirata:
@AnnaDragon:
@gintama666:
Don't listen to them,
windows 8 is faster(but uglier) than 7 and is recommended for future gaming
just install classicshell or stardock and another theme(if you dislike metro) and voila it's like windows 7 but better (and cheaper)
aslo windows blue will improve 8

i can recommend this site to you

If you dont do any video/photo editing or anything of that sort, id suggest you with i5 since its cheaper. I7 is pretty much the same as i5 but has hyperthreading. Overall its a pretty good computer. Id suggest you stick with windows 7 since you are gaming. Theres nothing good about windows 8 that makes it worthwhile upgrading imo.

The network card is unnecessary; what motherboard doesn't have Ethernet built in these days? CPU cooler also seems unnecessary.

Windows 8 is highly unnecessary.
