Trails in the Sky coming to Steam July 29
Hailed as one of the largest, longest and most meticulously detailed turn-based JRPG series of all time, this first chapter in the ongoing Trails saga sets the stage for what's quickly become Ys developer Nihon Falcom's most popular and best-selling franchise in their entire 30+ year history.
This PC version includes all the features from the PSP version that was released in 2011 (NG+, difficulty modes, etc.) and more (nicer text boxes, support for all screen resolutions, etc.). Trails in the Sky is a highly character driven game, with tons of dialogue and world building. (There's even a novel within the game.) If you don't like reading, then this isn't the game for you. The battle system is pretty fun, but it's mostly loved for its amazing story and the universe that it establishes and develops through the main story, NPCs, and quests.

Obligatory side-note (& warning): Trails in the Sky is divided into 5 chapters. The first 4 chapters is mostly slice of life, with chapter 5 being the turning point (i.e. the point in the game that's supposed to thoroughly captivate you). There have been plenty of people who were bored to tears and couldn't make it to chapter 5, and so they don't get the hype or praise for this series. If you're afraid that this will happen to you, watch: this. If that doesn't seem interesting to you, then you probably won't make it to chapter 5 (and if you do, it's probably not going to "wow" you). Trails in the Sky is a very atmospheric game, so a playthrough video or two is a great indicator of how much you'll enjoy it overall.

Side-note #2: This whole game is basically a prologue for the events in Trails in the Sky: SC (short for Second Chapter), which has double the text and much better pacing. XSEED has been working on the sequel for about 2 years now, and it's expected to be released on PC and as a digital PSP title early 2015.

This game costs $20, though first week sales will be 15% off.

@KaiwatersXD FC and SC are guaranteed to come over, but after that, it'll completely depend on how much SC sells.

@Amuro: is steam doing the entire legend of heroes series or just trails in the sky? also did Xseed just scrap the psp project in favor for steam?

Hmm seems fun! I dont mind reading tons of text and i like how it shows you an arrow on the minimap so you always know where your going if you get lost Also im not the best at RPGs so.. xD hope its user-friendly

I haven't played the other legend of heroes but it's supposed to start as part of a new trilogy which is good

I might pick this one up. Thanks OP!

@dashx4 It's still technically on track for the end of 2014, but things would have to go really smoothly for them to meet it.

@KaiwatersXD Sure, if you don't mind an inferior version of FC and untranslated versions of all the rest. After all, the main reason to play this series is for the text.

@Liam I'm going to update the topic, but I recommend watching this first, so you can see for yourself what the characters and atmosphere/tone is like. There are some people who get lured into the hype and end up being bored to death and quitting before making it to chapter 5, and I'd hate it if anybody reading this topic bought it and ended up doing the same.

@iowncloud The game engine Sen no Kiseki uses apparently makes it easy to do a PC port, so hopefully that's the case. ;p

@Amuro: Ah yeah, I already knew just how huge the text was for these games, they really are beasts to translate. At the very least I can finally play one their games on PC, Trails in the Sky in particular was already good so it's a great starting point. Hopefully in the coming years, Sen no Kiseki may come to PC as I am particularly fond of this over Zero/Ao no Kiseki

@iowncloud I'd really like some of the newer ones too, Sen no Kiseki especially. XSEED's really passionate about this series though, so it's guaranteed to be released here in order. That makes Zero is still a few years away, and that's assuming the second chapter sells well enough to justify more. X_X These games are absolute beasts to translate. For anyone who hasn't seen these pics yet:

Almost all games in Japan are well below 1 million Japanese characters. I think the biggest Final Fantasy game, text-wise, had around 800,000 Japanese characters, with most other FF games averaging 600k - 700k.

Omg, finally one of the The Legend of Heroes games for PC. <3 I would have preferred Sen no Kiseki or Zero no Kiseki much more though...
