I don't longboard.. but on a random note, I have to look out for people on longboards when I bike around campus because I don't want to run them over. o.o
@Ricci: Well, I mean, people around where I live think it's more kid-like to skateboard, and act as if longboarding is an upgrade or something.
To me it's the tools who do both.

@blahbo: How is there more you can do with a longboard? You could coast down a street on a skateboard too, but you can also do tricks like dog on a skateboard.
Not only can you coast down streets, you can bomb them going as fast as cars in some places.
Slides are very different on skateboards and are either much harder or impossible to execute in many instances.
Traditionally skateboards cannot turn as well as longboards.
The larger variety of longboarding wheels and decks offer more specialization and a better time in general.

Some of this is opinion based I supposed, but most would agree with me.

i know nothing about boards but my friends have them so i might as well... they always skate ahead of me
You could either just go to a local skate shop and talk to them (they would give you good suggestions) or look into cheaper boards online from brands like sector 9 which offer decks that are great for beginners.

I got a wedge-nosed drop-deck for downhill from a local company over here. The Olympus - mythboards.

On dem Paris 180s, Purp In-heat tangz.

One of my hangers bent though, but I sent it in for a replacement (life-time warranty from Paris <3). Expecting it back soon, then I'm gonna tear up some hills and do some free-ridin. Might cop another deck sometime in the Summer so I can have symmetry and work on my switch slides.
I have a loaded vanguard with Randal charity trucks and yellow 86 duro o tangs. I never get other bearing than reds because a little matinence goes a long way with them.
There we go, someone without a store standard! But yeah, reds are my favorite bearings, totally worth the price and they last me forever..
Question: Do you guys longboard because it became uncool to skateboard once you turned 13 or something, but you still really want to skateboard?
Nah, a lot of us skateboard too. It's just longboards have grown more popular because there is so much more you can do with them. Plus they keep coming in different shapes and sizes which really appeals to lots of people..
