you pretty much can, but you will burn pots at an inhuman rate... exactly one pot per hit. not to mention 5% critical only.
on a pretty suggestion you can
#1.- do surveys and save enough to at least magic guard.
#2.- make another class, make a lot of mesos, find someone legit, and buy them with mesos from him (gift).

Yes. They are getting discounted for Chaos, but it would (should?) go back to normal. In one of the threads, it showed the price of the books was 50% off, but yes, you still have to pay.

OT: If you are looking to get past 100, you NEED the Magic Guard book.

But I wouldn't even recommend MAKING an Evan if you can't afford the books, because who really wants to keep recasting? You aren't reaching full potential, but you can if you want. I have a couple of friends who made Evans and didn't want to buy the books. They quit soon after they got to level 80.

You will be spending more money on pots than the actual cost of the books. If you apply the nx : meso ratio that is, and you plan for past 120.

It is possible to train to 120+ without an of the nx skillbooks.
Evan's have enough hp to survive a high damage blow.
So if you train on monsters you can 2hko quickly, you can survive.
NX skill books are 6k in total

how much are the mastery books?

Yes, it is possible. It`s just impossible to do train it after Lv. 100 because of the lack of magic guard, and training is crap without booster.

You can't go very far without Magic Guard, but I don't find Critical Magic and Magic Booster to be necessities, so it should be okay not to get those two

It's possible to do it without the mastery books up until Lv100, but after that, you're pretty much screwed without Magic Guard and Magic Booster.

The nx mastery books is what actually ALLOWS you to put skill points in it.
So you pretty much need them.
