Owning Car

>.< People that leave their shopping carts in the parking lot, instead of returning them to their proper place are the worst kind of people. People who just don't care?

I took my mother to buy a few things from the store yesterday and when we returned to my car, I noticed a shopping cart pressing up against it. I immediately moved it and checked for damage - lo and behold, I found a small dent 2-3cm wide? with a small white scratch. on the lower portion of the passenger door. It's not noticeable unless you inspect the door closely... but it's damage and it's there. This car's only a year old - it's a 2013 model. So this really ticked me off. One of the many things I strongly dislike about NJ - people leave their shopping carts scattered about, instead of just returning them to the little stalls.

Now, every time I go to get in my car, I can't help but look down at that little dent and scratch.

Has this ever happened to you? Does your car have dents or scratches?

when you get something new, you take a knife and give it a good first scratch.

As a cart pusher (and bag boy) at a busy-ass grocery store, I know 100% how annoying that is. People are so crappy. They'll leave their carts in empty spaces, a yard away from the cart corral. Those who push their cart from the checkstand to the inside cart area, they just leave it at the edge instead of taking 5 seconds to put it away.
Then there's the people who park unnecessarily far away and leave their cart way the hell over there.

Yeah yeah, I get paid for it, but if people took 5 - 20 seconds to part their carts in the right place, it would make the store just a bit more efficient as a whole. I wouldn't have to go round up the strewn carts, and on busy days like today I could get carts easily without people complaining.

God I hate customers. Don't work in retail.

it definitely hurts more when it's a new car. :'( treated mine like a baby when I first got it but later realized new cars eventually become old after use. can't stop that everyday use from happening.
Insurance might cover it. I'm pretty sure they will want video footage from the parking lot though. You can call them and ask.
I'll have to look into that. I don't think the parking lot has any sort of surveillance system though, so I'm probably out of luck.

I have to take my car to a body shop tomorrow anyways, so I'll ask them for an estimate on that tiny ding + scratch (although it's so small, I kinda feel stupid for asking). Sucks having to watch a new car get dinged and scratched from every day use.
People leave the carts in random places everywhere dude, not just NJ. Laziness man. I know when I lived in Germany, at most places you have to pay for the cart. Once returned you get your money back. Kinda deters doing stuff like that. I think they need that over here in the states.
omg yes just yes. They have em at Aldi though

I'm seriously thinking about getting this dent fixed, but because of the paint damage, it might be expensive. ugh...
@luckysausage: I'm guessing someone slammed the cart against my car, or let their cart go and it tumbled on over and bumped into my car. When I pulled into the parking spot, there were no carts around. It happened while my mother and I were in the store.

@ErvTheMan: Really? o.o I never experienced this problem in Ontario! Everyone returned their carts after use. You never had to pull half way into a parking spot, just to back out, bec. some idiot left their cart in the spot. >.<

@BoredAF: Or people that do a terrible job parking, so that when you go to park, you're forced to open your doors in an awkward way to get in and out of your car.

@Expressive: I FEEL YOUR PAIN! That frustrates me a great deal too.

Did someone slam the cart against the car or did you hit the cart?
