Facebook friends

I see people with 2,000+ friends but in reality the human mind can only maintain 150 relationships at once.

All in all, if you have lets say, 200+ friends, you probably don't communicate with some on a daily basis if at all.

How many do you actually talk to on a daily basis?
How many do you say "hi" to on a daily basis?
How many do you just know by name/face?
How many are added from "mutual friends"?

Is this a good thing? Why do we add people we don't know?
Why is facebook so popular along with other social media?
When you think about it, it would just be easier to just text/take face-to-face/call the people we actually get along with (and have more meaningful conversations) instead of posting a (shallow?) message to a wall.

Facebook isn't even about having super close relationships with every single one of your Facebook friends though.. So your entire argument is invalid.

I know enough by name/face.
none. It's either I know them irl at some point or it's MS friends who quit. Which btw, I do forget names on Maple at some point.

At one point I had like 1000+ friends because of Mafia Wars. Then I quit, I had to delete a lot of them. Now left with 300+

Facebook friends are more like contacts. They can be customers if you're selling something or connections that can help you get a job, recruit people for a club/job/other stuff.
Not all of them are meant to be your close friends that you always talk to and hang out with. People just add to expand their connections.
