but theres really nothing visually appealing about flappy birds, its just a bunch of green pipes and a blue background.
well, i was speaking of those games that copy the old ones, and sometimes becomeeven more successful than the original, just like you said
flappy birds in the other hand is just a fad where people flaunt their high scores over facebook, nothing else
the pipes might fool few people with nostalgia glasses, but that aint the main reason why people play this game
Aesthetics are very important to most people
launching birds to hit pigs is more fun than catapulting rocks towards a tower

this is why mario games are popular despite being far superior games in the market

question? why is flappy birds being over hyped? it looks like the simplest game. in fact every game app that became popular was just a rip off of older game no one remembers...

Angry Birds is still making money. How long's it been now? 3 years? 4?
I dunno, I'm hearing less and less about Angry Birds.
I don't know about Tap Tap, but people used to like that, and it's like dead.
Temple Run is slowly going to its grave too.

angry birds is not just a fad
it is a solid franchise

here we have nothing but a lazyware with ripped-off sprites that people play just to keep a higher score

I have no idea what drives the popularity of mobile apps; I've been playing this for years... http://www.coptergame.net/

@fatandfurious: Hover? Really? Meh. Just played it and got M.Jordan's 23...posted it on the leaderboards which apparently says (in order: "Die all you c___)...scary sublimal message.
I think he should re-release it with the ability for the community to make skins. For free.

The potential for the game could be explosive.
fads have no potential other than making the most money out of a short timespan
