Decided to take up Violin

So kind of just made the final decision to take up and learn Violin.

I really feel like music can be so important and vital to someone's life and get be a great stress reliever, and you can play more passionate when feeling emotions running through you.

Growing up, I played the guitar but I never consistently stuck with it. So I'm hoping Violin is the one for me.

Any advice for me? I'm not "young" I suppose when it comes to learning a new instrument, I'm 20, so idk if that will have any bearing on anything.
And any advice on what kind of violin to get for beginners?

You should learn the piano. Or learn more guitar. Because those are both more awesome and practical.

Or learn the fiddle.

Oh man. I took violin classes for over 5 years, but it was lots of fun.

I think I can still play O Canada, but that's about it.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

(don't forget to rub rosin on your bow often)

I've been playing violin at a competitive level since I was 6 and I'm just gonna tell you, you aren't gonna get anywhere unless you dedicate at least an hour a day for a few years. You're gonna sound like complete crap until you reach a certain threshold, it's not like the guitar where you can pick up a few easy songs and sound half decent.

In terms of violin quality, quality does matter. Don't go for the huge brands, you're gonna want to look into local violin dealers. I'd say invest in a cheap violin (around 300-500) for now and a matching bow (bow is usually about 1/3 the price of violin used) until you're sure you want to stick with it. Then you can switch to a 3000 dollar one which should be fine until a very professional level.

Good luck

First search up videos and watch basic learning videos to see if you like the play style, and how comfortable the instrument looks then invest in a cheap beginners violin and move from there once you feel ready. It's a great instrument and if used right you can produce amazing music with it.
