Hit by so much nostalgia...
Well, hi! I haven't been an active member on this site since like 2008, but I recently accepted a job offer (will be graduating college in May) and it really struck me how long ago it was that I spent my afternoons playing MapleStory... I have very fond memories of the game and looking back I can say that it was a huge part of my childhood. Just wanted to share some thoughts/memories and maybe reminisce a little... is this what being old feels like?
I started MS around Halloween in 2005, the day the cash shop was introduced... I remember that on my very first day playing I went to Kerning to do my job advancement and got killed by Coolie Zombies that were spawned in the noob areas for the event. Had about 15 friends IRL who played with me, and it was honestly such a great time in my life... seeing friends at school in the daytime and then partying up online in the evenings...
Made this basil account some time in early 2006 and was a pretty active member of the community back then. So many fun discussions - one that I still remember was a silly thread about starting a cult to worship Mr. Basil. I didn't realize back then, but this was/is probably one of the most positive online communities. Almost nobody flamed or insulted, and there were always people willing to help you with quests, skill builds, homework, relationship troubles, you name it. I'm really glad to have been a part of it and it is awesome to see that people are still having fun here.
Wish I could go back in time to when I could spend hours on this site and MS... life was so simple back then, sigh. Now, I'm just a jaded 21-year-old going to leave my home in Cali in a few months to go live the yuppie life in Boston, where no one knows my name... (do kids these days even know that song, haha)
Anyways, now that I've gotten these feelings out of my system, what's up Basil? Anyone from my era still active here? Also, this new site is pretty funky - I had a little trouble logging in, actually (email logins now wtf - good thing I remember the email + password I used 9 years ago).

@death00 I just listened to some of the BGMs on my commute to school... I realized I could totes play some of these songs on the flute... (cries)

I started maple I think in 2006, and basil in 2007 - it seems so weird to think that it has been 8 years... I don't even remember the old peeps in basil mostly because I never bothered keeping track of who's who haha. Maple really was a whole chunk of my childhood too... they really were the simple days. Some songs trigger memories of maple BGMs

I think I started playing right before the summer break of 2008, which is quite late comparing to what I assume to be the time during the ultimate peak of popularity of the game (which I'm guessing it's around late 2006 to late 2007, since I hear about ppl playing this game during this time a lot, especially online). I have heard about the game back in 2007.
Unless Mr Basil start to implement some decent changes to the site, the community here isn't going to be stable.
I can't say the same for the game. The game is going downhill and there's no way to help it.
To my experiences, the community was never THAT positive here. But I joined the site only after 2008. Flames and insults used to be a norm. But since the community here is dying off now..

I started playing MapleStory during Summer of '06. I was on and off with this game. I stopped in 2008, then came back late 2011 then stopped at the end of the year. I played again during my first year of college then stopped.
I was thinking about playing MapleStory again but then I realized every time I come back from a hiatus, there's like some different things going on.
Ironically, I found a thread on the Steam discussion page for MS. The TS asked what funding is used for these days. He says he's from the era where you need all the accuracy on the planet just to even play. Any pre-BB player knows the struggle of that, especially Warrior classes T_T
@sirkibblex2: sorry to hear that... hope life gets better for you and your family. I'm in a similar financial situation... my mom has been stressing about finances as well (both my brother and I are in college so she's alone at home on top of that)... that's why I'm glad to have gotten this job so I can support myself/give back to her.
And it's also awful to hear that basil's dying too.. but I guess I'm not surprised given that maple is 10+ years old now.
