Nexon's servers are getting targeted by a bunch of compromised programs and/or systems (usually trojans) that are repeatedly sending a type of feedback that overloads their service. This tremendously slows down the servers and results in threads like what we're in now.
It's bad because this isn't something Nexon can 100% defend against. Mitigate yes, but not remove completely.

The LoL servers still occasionally lagg, but Riot handles it much better than Nexon handles it.
