NEXON Just make a pre-bb maplestory

Hi if you don't know me i've been a Maplestory player since 2002. and even though I stuck with this game for many years I must say.. Maplestory has become a pathetic experience nowadays.

- There is way too much new classes to choose from
- Too much content
- Game takes way too long to load even on fast PC's
- P2W and shop sales every week
- And the gameplay is completely unbalanced now.

So you must be thinking.. shut up! we want more content! we want more new jobs and more cash shop hairstyles and blah blah, well.. not everyone wants all that!

The best days Maplestory ever had was during the "Tiger Era" pre-bb, and this is why mostly every unnoficial server out there is trying to remake that style of gameplay.

Now i've heard Jagex recreated the Old School Runescape game and since then, its been VERY successful! Blizzard recreated their classic Warcraft game a week ago and it's been PACKED ever since launch. so now it's time for NEXON to follow suit.

Nexon recently merged the servers up because, well face it.. the game is pretty dead. if not for Reboot. don't you think its time they did something? to uhh bring the players back?

A combination of V83 and V62 with every hair/face style and cash shop item ever released would be perfect. Annual events could change up from time-to-time with the core of the game always being a combination between those two versions, while stopping just before cubes and potentials were released. I'd leave hammer slots out, as well as 50% pink scrolls. Also make every outfit permanent, and keep the exp at 1x, pre-2009 curve so that leveling is slow and long-term.

Haha years ago people here would stick a knife on someone for mentioning this idea on this site, now with the game dead to oblivion, people are opening up to the idea.

@saitama: I don't totally disagree with your point about community, but I think MS2 failed for different reasons, mainly that it was a shallow, boring game that played like some mobile cash grab.

there's still people who believe classic maple was less p2w? Pepega

Another thing is that, I don't know how long a lot of veteran players will stick around, I feel like the initial release will be something akin to when Maplestory 2 dropped in the west, but after a while people will just stop. One thing you can't recreate is the community, which has changed over the years

@dalsia: hahahahaha, when we were young and really, REALLY low level.

@gekkegerrit: I also foolishly spent my entire savings (5k) to go to Orbis around level 15 on my mage. It took so long to afford to get back to Victoria because I was only 12 or something and didn't understand how to manage my potions and money.

In 2005 i made my first char, it was gekkegerrit on Bera. A clerc, he leveled soooo slow. I still remember i went to Orbis for the first time and i got stuck in the orbis tower. the critters there kept killing my poor low level clerc, it was truly sad and beautiful at the same time.

I know. It took so long to climb in levels past 50. My OG character was at level 62 before i took my hiatus to go to college. I gave up because of time constraints and the painfully slow EXP gains back then.

@azureduran: I think the level pacing was pretty good until around the mid 50s. For a long time, even in the earliest versions of the game, I could get a level by playing for only a few hours per day. Once I hit level ~55 it started taking 6+ hours.

A big reason for that is because there weren't many good training spots in those higher levels; zombies were always packed, and once you were in the mid 60s it started taking 6 hours again. Later versions of pre-BB MS had excellent level pacing. Things like LMPQ, Leafre and ToT made training challenging but fun, plus Nexon had lowered the EXP requirements.

I disliked MS2 because it took one or two days to hit max level. Original MS made you feel like there was progression, a journey your character was undertaking. Every 10 levels or so your character got new armor and a new weapon, which were meaningful because the stats mattered, and you'd be using your new gear for a while; there were numerous PQs that allowed you to switch between grinding and partying/making friends; there were always new mini bosses you could kill that dropped rare loot. You didn't need to be max level to enjoy the game because of all the unique content along the way.

There were some good aspects of pre-BB, but the painfully slow leveling up was the one thing i hated about maplestory before the BB.

Its a nice idea, a seperate server with a pre BB maple version, like the Reboot server would be cool. But unfortenulately i have to agree with Beefly. We (American and European players) are much more retro fans than Asian players are. Unless Nexon US becomes more undependants i doubt this will happen.
I would love it though.
EDIT"i remember in the old days (like 5 years ago, give or take) "ïlligal" copys off maple flourished. It was called maplestory server mode.
The old school feeling was most definitive a part of f that.

Beefly is probably right. As far as I know, KMS still makes Nexon hundreds of millions in revenue every year, and they call the shots; I don't see the Korean suits trying to cater to an NA audience ever again, especially since MMOs have slumped in the west.

I do hope we get some kind of true classic MS experience someday, though. I think it would have to be balanced and changed a bit because old MS, while extremely fun at the time, had clear design flaws that we were just too inexperienced to see at the time (i.e. rolling the dice for stats for 20 minutes, making it take 15 hours to level up one time when you're not even halfway through the game, class/item imbalance, etc.).

I think an underrated feature of old MS was its arcade-like platforming mechanics, which played in very well with its snappy battle system. Keeping that part of the gameplay experience intact would be important.

Not gonna happen, Nexon Korea calls the shots and it doesn't seem like any Korean players feel the same as you do. KMS is still booming enough to compare with Overwatch over there, very impressive.

do most people who were active on maplestory for years even play mmos or video games anymore?
