Because it's easier to type "/90/" than "anime and manga section." It doesn't seem out of place for me either, though that's because I don't use the front-page to browse the forums.

i'm definitely on the other end of the spectrum where i prefer/am totally enamored with flashy colors and designs, up to full-on weeb looking clothes etc.

@Yumtoast: I just mean, why not say "welcome to the anime section" rather than the number? It seems out of place to me and I've only noticed it recently, as if it became a trend because of something else. Similar to people using hashtags on here. That's why it seems silly to me and why I questioned it, to see if there was a reason why. I've also never seen chat referred to as /6/, but I'm not here all the time, so I probably just missed that too lol.

When people tour California, they'll be greeted with "Welcome to California!" instead of "Welcome!" because adding the setting provides context. It's actually rather silly that it bothers you, even if it's just slightly.

What's not to understand about it? It's proper usage, and this section has been referred to as /90/ ever since it's been around. Hell, no one bats an eye when someone refers to Chat as /6/.

Threads are already separated into sections and list the section right there, so why say things like "welcome to /90/" just seems rather silly.
