Children Starving in Africa

All day people have been using this as an argument, and TBH I think it's stupid. All the people using this argument have never done anything to help the children in Africa, so who are you to preach?

"I think that if I ever have kids, and they are upset, I won't tell them that people are starving in China or anything like that because it wouldn't change the fact that they were upset. And even if somebody else has it much worse, that doesn't really change the fact that you have what you have."

Brownie points if you know the book. Anyways...

I am very upset about this because I am from Africa, and I am starving.
But who gave them the phone? It would most likely be the parents, in which case yes they hauled ass for it.

I agree with the fact that it doesn't change anything(to me, it's like the equivalent of saying calm down to someone who's legitimately angry), but that example doesn't really work.
I don't think you understand what I'm trying to say. I can say I hate my phone because it sucks, but I'm still grateful for it. Whereas I could say I hate the new phone my parents got me for Christmas. One is voicing an opinion the other is just being ungrateful. The thing about this is, people assume others are ungrateful for what they have just because they say they don't like it. Which is totally different that complaining about something great that you have.
I'd rather the parents tell off the kids by saying how many hours they spend working their ass off just to get you an overglorified phone that's going to get replaced in a few months.
If the child was complaining about a new phone they got, then yes that would work. But if it was a child talking about how they don't like their phone, then it wouldn't work the same way because everyone is subject to opinion and that opinion doesn't change the fact that the said child is still using the phone despite disliking it.

@sl3athOwl : You are beautiful.

Yes, you still have problems, and those problems will still persist, but it is saying that you complaining about about not getting a game is an inconsequential thing to whine about relative to things like starving or dying.
