I don't believe in an afterlife so I'm pretty much just as confused as you are.

I don't. my current life doesn't suck but I don't think about the afterlife either.

Well, if our doings actually hurt other beings, we can go down, but if we find a way to help we could go above. The first step to create harmony lies in making yourself happier. Once you become happy, you can send that happiness to others (your parents first). 2 important things of the Bible are prayer and meditation, use meditation to be mindful and non-judgmental. If we don't judge how can we suffer? Whilst praying, you ask ''May I be happy'', then you do it for your parents. Those 2 practices make you more receptive (open to the universe) and raise your vibration. You will have a feeling of possessing the whole world, but transform that feeling into happiness!

Everytime something seems too complicated, you simply need to reduce the amount of work. Do what you can or else you will not feel that happy.
