Do you believe this individual quotJesusquot was divine?

Around 1 ~ 3 CE (about 2000 years ago) a person was born that changed the world forever. Jesus of Nazareth.

There's no question and a fact that was indeed a person in history named Jesus of Nazareth. What he said, what he did, his full life biography, and most importantly who was he is all subjective.

Common viewpoints on Jesus of Nazareth

Judaism: Many opinions differ depending on the certain branch but the common belief is Jesus was not the long awaited messiah foretold in the Hebrew scriptures, rather they view Jesus as a false messiah and the messiah age has not come. They believe worshiping Jesus is idolatry which is the worship of idols and is a deadly sins one can commit.

Christianity: Although, there are like 50+ Christian branches one unifying belief that they all share is Jesus was certainly divine (God) and he died on the cross for humanity and was resurrected later on (the triumpth over death). Jesus dying on the cross is symbolical in the sense that it was the ultimate sacrifice. Since the beginning, when humans first (Adam and Eve) disobeyed God it created the original sin and that separated the bond between God and humans. Since then humanity has lived in darkness for a long time until the long awaited "messiah" foretold in the Hebrew prophecy, the would come to save and change the world (Christians believe Jesus is indeed the Messiah foretold in the Hebrew scriptures). So does Jesus dying on the cross exactly redeem humanity as a whole? It's a hard concept to explain but the general consensus is Jesus dying on the cross is also symbolical in the sense that Jesus took all the suffering and pain of humanity's sin on his shoulders. A monument to all of our sins. As a result, the covenant bond is between humans and God is connected once again. Humans can now be a worthy standing before God. That is why if you believe Jesus as the savior who died for humanity sins, you will not perish but rather have eternal life. (The most popular verse in the Bible and the main point in Christianity)

Islam: Jesus was not God but rather he was a prophet whom was an exceptional teacher. It also told in the Islamic scripture (Qur'an) that Jesus did not die on the cross, it was made to be appeared to the witnesses he did. In other words, the death was staged or faked. There is only one God and that is Allah. Mohammad is the final prophet in which God has revealed

Atheism: Jesus was a hooligan who was either lying, crazy or both. Some atheists will go far and say that this Jesus person never even existed in history

Agnostic: We'll never know for sure

i go to church once or twice a week and i pretty much just go for the social aspect. became an athiest a longggg time ago. christianity, among other religions, sounds like an attempt to explain our origins and our purpose in life. why do you think there are so many different religions/
on a side note, why did greek mythology become considered mythology...i'm not too educated in this subject, obviously.

Jesus was a person. He was of the jewish faith. He was not, however, the son of god. He had ideas the differed from many people's and he was able to acquire a following. Was he divine? No. Was he important and influential? Yes.

Nope but that doesn't change anything. Current events are cross-referenced many times to determine if they have a shred of validity (ex. eye witness reports in assault charges etc.) Even if there were multiple instances of whatever was written on those ancient artifacts, it is impossible to determine if the authors are credible. I take anything from the "bc" era with a grain of salt.

"Jesus was a hooligan who was either lying, crazy or both"

Wait what, that's definitely not what any atheistic discourse says.

OT: Jesus was an extraordinary political figure of his time, he fought hard for people at the bottom of the socioeconomic ladder. He was revolutionary and inspired a lot of people which is why he is still remembered to this day. I recommend reading the book "Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth" by Reza Aslan, he's a religious scholar/historian who does a great job of outlining exactly who Jesus was based on what we know about him from historical records.

Did Jesus have divine powers? Oh absolutely not, we live in reality not a fairytale, but it's easy to see why people attributed powers to him.

Most scholars do agree that there was a person named Jesus, but what he did is up to debate.

People have religious experiences when they have brain tumors. Nothing to tell me Jesus didn't have tumor as well.
