and there comes episode 4, which has nothing to do with the story so far felt like just a filler episode >.>
Unless you know the story or anything about what the heat haze daze is, then ofc ep4 is going to seem out of place. So far it is still in the character introduction phase, and i believe all of the 9 mekakushi-dan members have been introduced. From now it should start to build the story although it will probably take a few more episodes for it to sink in as to why ep4 wasn't filler.
The problem with them trying to animate it is, that quite a few of the songs are set in the exact same time frame. So there will either be jumping between the important parts of the songs in one episode or do as they have done and break it up to do one episode for each of the split songs.
nobody who isnt familiar with the source material understands whats going on
im not sure but this is like a story that youre not suppose to understand yet. it's suppose to piece together (sort of like when my brother marathoned monogatari with me while it was my second watch, he understood a lot of things early and pointed out many things that i did not understand through my initial watch. because of this he was also able to predict a lot of things and have a lot of deep discussions with me about the story)
as much as i think the bashing is unfair, i must agree fully that i thought the animation was trash in ep 4 from such a popular and well funded studio. i mean of course there were some derps in earlier episodes that i forgave but the scene where something happened that i cant say as it would spoil it, was terrible. if youve watched ep 4 you would know what im talking about, or if you still cant feel free to pm me
Duno why , I can imagine it like this , the shopping centre scene , with the beginning of each episode zooming into each characters eye in turn , then after all the introductions are done the camera zooms out to a still image of all the characters grinning.
@bloodisShed Are they like someone mentioned , a character introduction episode for each main character , that sounds awesome , character introduction episodes are some of my favourite, they always seem really interesting
^not much action. so far, it's a bunch of fairly disconnected stories so far. i'm confused about the story myself. they tried to make the story a bit coherent with episode 3, but threw the main story to the trash can and made a completely unrelated story in episode 4.
idk if i just have low standards but it's great so far in ep 3. Definitely seems very Shaft-esque w/ the overuse of head-tilts, a touch avant garde, and art style.
I haven't read the Mekakucity novels/manga, but if SHAFT is spending 1 episode per [I assume] main character, won't it take 10 episodes to get through character introductions?
This can't be right.
So far its a somewhat close adaptation to the manga, with a few changes here or there (like a character added in episode 1). If it continues it should get to the actual Mekakushi Dan story / introduction, in episode 3 (a re-telling of episode 1 from another perspective). Otherwise i am more interested in if they will do the flashback arc of Ene and Konoha (he hasn't been shown in the anime yet) explaining how they came to be, because imo it has been the most interesting part of the manga so far.

so am i alone in feeling like SHAFT cares more about their aesthetics than making anything a particularly good adaptation? the first episode was pretty, it's just the sort of thing where the weird adaptation didn't make the mediocre source much better. i think one of the only enjoyable things i've seen abt Mekaku is the flashback arc.
@Hatchet: the fact that its original at least gives it a chance at being interesting. To be a Quality Poster, I read 10 chapters of the manga (still reading) instead of making a rebuttal...all I saw was a series on-par with Code Breaker. Definitely something I could potentially enjoy, but it doesn't have a premise, narrative, or characters strong enough to elevate it. I'm actually even less interested bc Shaft and Shinbo have their paws on it. There are only so many head tilts/closeups/color swaps you can do before it gets old, and I've seen enough SHAFT/Shinbo to reach that point.
@2005chuy: Sasami-san is literally just SHAFT with constant Instagram filters. So idk if that's "good art."
Don't you find it boring that the MC is a SUPAA TENSAI BAKANA wish-fulfillment character? You can already tell it'll be 12 episodes of beating a dead horse.
@2005chuy Considering she can move freely between phones and stuff she can stop him from doing that. Ergo the easiest way for him to get a new Pc is to go shopping.
>"One day, Ene messes with Shintaro's PC which causes him to go outside for the first time in two years." Why? Also, if the art is anywhere near as good as sasami-san (which I haven't actually seen yet), it'll be worth watching.
She makes him spill something on it which fries the thing. A hikineet has a lot of trouble staying a hikineet without a pc.

As long as it chooses to stick to either the manga or Visual Novel and doesn't try to take its own spin on the songs it should be pretty good. ENE-chan <3

Anyone , happy viewing all !
^yea, seems about right. each episode focus on a particular character

seem's like it could be quite good , the image on google images of all the characters with different colours sells it well .
Much action in it ?
As someone who hasn't read the source or even the entire synopsis of Mekaku City Actors, episode 3 was pretty good.

episode 1-2 annoyed me with their shaftness, and i haven't even watched other shaft anime before.
mainly because of their slow-pacedness, and intentional mind-screw in the 1st episode.
but ep 3 was fairly interesting.

I got confused in episode 2 and stopped

I have the same question as yumtoast but for now lets talk about

@Yumtoast: indeed. watched nisekoi right after to hear her marika voice, i love how she does prankster type characters tho

Still my AOTS

Yeah that first ep was pretty bad. Of course it was rushed and the art/animation was terrible. Definitely not AOTS.

Those Itachi lines doe
@Plenair: Actually SAO's light novel was good (apparently) because there were no time skips and they explained a lot of stuff
I haven't read it but that's what people say
EDIT: The only way I can see this show not being AOTS is if they do an original, I actually think they are though so that sucks.

dismissing it from a possible aots is silly, but so is calling something aots before it even begins airing
I'd say No Game No Life is going to be this season's AOTS. No idea how mekakucity actors will turn out though, haven't read manga/novel.
i feel like we have to be real here and acknowledge it's not AOTS and won't be, regardless of individual hype levels
Uh...no, both the Light novel and manga were great.
