When will more sites be added to the safelist?
It's been years and AFAIK, youtube is the only site considered safe. Why not imgur, wikipedia etc?

Mainly because it's a line of defense against the dweebs who like to post links to all kinds of crap.
It gives you a chance to see what the actual link you're going to is, unobfuscated by any attempts to hide it with the url/text tags.
Not everyone has the statusbar at the bottom of the screen enabled which shows the destination URL, and not everyone looks at the statusbar link anyway.
