Males playing Female characters

I play a female character, but I'm a male. I have like 15+ characters and have a mix or boy/girl, but prefer the female ones because I think the avatar looks better. Recently someone made some false accusations about my sexual preference because of it. I know this isn't uncommon, but curious what you guys, the basil community, think.

It's a game, it doesn't matter what you do as long as you're having fun and not act like a jerk. And the people who make a big deal out of it just needs to calm down and stop overreacting. Who cares about one's sexuality/preference? It doesn't do any harm and it's none of their business.

I feel sorry for the male players that gets crap for playing female characters. Half of my main characters are male because I think some of the male styles are cute and no one has ever had a problem with girls playing male characters.

@IntDit : Well, many people think that I'm a guy for some funny reasons o-o They're like um, are you a guy? I just lol at them xD Idk, but apparently where I play, people think that it's weird for a female to play a female character perhaps?

@deadlifts:
what the hell are you talking about? Who is that anyway? Who are you to start talking trash to me anyway? You don't even know me. You're the one that got all upset and butthurt over what i said. Which is why you even resorted to call me that horrible name. I am sure if it was vice versa you would be a tad offended as well. Anyone would be. My original post wasn't trying to offend you. I was merely stating that there was nothing to stare at in MS. You could have just said I rather look at girl avatars not in a sexual away though. Then be done with it. However, you escalated and took major offense to what i stated.

I like making females because their styles/aesthetics are better than guys for the most part.
I used to make females because their equips were cheaper.
On classes with a lot of equips, I'd just make a guy.

I apologize for the offense. I would mean to say I'm not comfortable playing female avatars and I have alot more fun playing as a male.

Point taken, but this is a game. There are people that believe playing games in general is childish, but I know the maple community would disagree with that. The way I look at it, maplestory is a game, and shouldn't have to be governed by the social standards that our real lives are. There should be no stigma around the choices we make is all I'm saying. I'm not bothered by people being upset that I play a female character, but not everyone is okay with that. And it takes away from someones gaming experience when you trash talk them and call them obscene words. You don't even know this person. As you said however, its going to mean something different to everyone.
@Gildarts: ...If it's okay if a girl marries a girl, then, why can't guys marry other guys? That's just UNFAIR.
Here is how i view it. I know its just a virtual game, but I sometimes visualize it realistically. Suppose you see two girls in real life who are best friends. One is Casandra and the other is Kumi.
Casandra: " Hey girlfriend want to have a sleep over in my house?"
Kumi: " OMG casandra sure I totally don't have homework this weekend, how about saturday?"
{So the two girls Casandra and kumi walked happily together holding hands to Casandra's house for the slumber party}

Now for the guys { lets name them Michael and Chris}
Michael: " Ey waddup boyfriend wanna have a sleep over in my crib?"
Chris: " Hell yeah brah, I didn't f{k}n finish my hw but f{k} it let's have a slumber party muthaf{k}a, how about during 420?"
{ so the two guys Michael and Chris walked happily together holding hands to Michael's house for the slumper party}

the end

@SerenadeBass: "go end yourself" "treat everyone with respect" HIPOCRISY MUCH? I wouldn't dare say 1/5th of the stuff I say to my male friends that I would to my female friends. Clearly you don't know how common society is structured. Boys/men tease and joke around with one another in a way that you just DO NOT dare to say to a women. Go play tranni plz and leave your ignorant comments on someone elses post.

Anyway I just meant that I'm attracted to sexy and cute is not sexy. However, it doesn't mean I don't like to stare at cute things. (puppies, kittens?). And if I'd choose it'd be female avatars not male in this game. Happy?

I make female characters based on two things, whether or not the canon is female and/or whichever gender has the better defaults.

As far as guys playing girls go, if you're into that then who am I to judge?

You're the one being upset bc I somehow made you butt hurt over what I stated. Explain how does one attracted to game toons a p3dophile? That makes absolutly no sense at all. Games don't have ages and in order to be a p3dophile you must be attracted to children under the age of 13.

@deadlifts: You are taking way too much offense over what i said. First of all. why you so butt hurt over what I said? Second of all did I ever say i was attracted to game toons? No, so what you said doesn't even make any sense. Thirdly, how does one being attracted to game toons make someone a p3dophile? You even know the definition of that word? I bet you don't. You prob throw that word out just like how everyone uses swag for every stupid comment to look cool. Let me explain to you p3dophile means being attracted to girls or guys under age of 13. That's p3dophile. Last time I checked video game characters do not even have an age. In fact they arn't real people. Again you spouting stupid crap out of your ass. Lastly, why so you butt hurt again over what I said? I never even said there was a problem with people playing girl toons. You said you wanted to stare at something cute. Thus, I stated that there is nothing to stare at on Maple like other games are. No need to complain about what I said lol.

Just don't marry male characters. It'd just be way too confusing cause then it's like well you're a guy on a female character marrying a male character, and who knows if that person's actually male or female, and do they know if you're male or female, and does that become gay then or straight, or some kind of pansexual, or bilingual, or whatever...

Also I feel slightly confused whenever I see a dude playing a girl character because I'm a girl and I like girls and then the dude's like "yo I'm a girl" but then sometimes not and also sometimes we're just roleplaying characters and it gets really confusing.

On alot of 3D games, guys play the female characters because those games tend to show a lot of skin for female avatars XD Especially the lack of proper proportions in the breast and ass regions. How would that make a guy gay? Same concept for MS, it doesnt make you gay, or have anything to do with sectuallity. Female characters have good stuff about them, and so does males. It is a matter of preference. And even IF the guys play because they like to be feminine or whatever, SO THE FUDGE WHAT. I am pangender so I will play whatever the hell I want :O

Pretty much as everyone stated, it's just personal preference and harmless. Unless you're literally riding on some 13 year old guy who really wants your pixels, it boils down to preference. People can hate on you all they want, but in the end it wont change anything. Your preference will net you your own friends, while those haters will have their own friends.
Don't let those accusations do anything for you, play what you want. I always preferred making a male character, but honestly, it's quite unfair. The range of nice looking male things compared to female things is pretty bad.
As long as your intentions of a female character was for self preference, it really doesn't matter.

Well, isn't the point of a game to be able to do stuff you can't do in real life? I mean, we don't just run around heavily armed and steal cars, just to drive into the ocean and die, but end up respawning in real life do we? That's part of the charm of games (that was referencing GTA series...I think.), plus it's a role playing game. MMORPG. You should really get into the role of being a character in the game (unless you made a female character to gold dig. If so, stop it. There are A.) Kids. B.) People actually looking for love (people actually do get into relationships over MMORPGs.) C.) People who don't give two craps. Besides, you you like getting scammed out of all your items/possessions/money ingame, or even IRL? Didn't think so.) hence the whole role playing in the title. Mmk. I'm done.

TL;DR : Doesn't matter really. It's a game.
