8 GB of Ram Acer Aspire with Intel HD Graphics, aspire to be in the trash can I guess lol, core isn't too great either, but it was a 2008 computer so i'll give it that much.

This is my future PC though:

@greatbolshy: 1080 benchmarks just revealed it blows everything out of the water. pretty much beats SLI 980's in everything. I'd think that'd be good enough to get a 1080, just sell the 970

built at the beginning of january. thanks to good deals it cost me like $850 or something but normally would've been 1200 ish

i7 4790k
hyper 212 evo
gtx 970
z97 gaming 5 mobo
16gb corsair vengeance ram
250gb ssd
2 tb hdd
corsair 600w psu
nzxt phantom 240 case
razer deathadder
razer blackwidow chroma edition
blue snowball
sennheiser 558s
ipad mini
saitek x52 pro joystick
2 1080p acer monitors

currently working on saving for a new setup. i plan on doing a big upgrade next year around this time. waiting for the next gen gpu release since i can't justify getting a 1070 or 1080 after just buying a 970 (rip). i'll be getting a vr headset if they end up working out, triple 144 hz monitors, new headset and a new desktop, preferably with liquid cooling since i haven't tried that yet.

i have my older desktop that i used for gaming hooked up to my tv so i can watch streams and stuff while playing games or laying in bed

I only know like 1 or 2 people in real life who have custom built gaming computers.
But of course on Basil 99/100 people have one lol.

(to answer the question, I have a crappy specs non-gaming laptop, because I get bored of video games).

@squid: It's up to you if you want to go 16. Some modern games recommend 8gb ram and some betas and early access games have bad coding that ends up utilizing more than normal amount of RAM.

Built this 3 years ago (~$1,200):
CPU: i5-4670K OC'ed to 4.2 GHz from 3.4 GHz. (~$230 at the time)
Heatsink: CM Hyper 212 Evo. (~$30)
RAM: 16GB Kingston HyperX DDR3 @ 1600MHz. (~$110 at the time)
Motherboard: An Asus Z87 MATX board. (~$100 at the time)
Storage: 250 GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD + 1TB Western Digital Blue HDD (~$250 at the time)
GPU: Asus GTX 770 2GB model (~$330 at the time)
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W (~$65)
Case: Bitfenix Prodigy M Black (~$70)

I'm content with this setup since I game at 1080p @ 60Hz and the 770 can still handle the latest AAA titles with a mix of very high and high settings (albeit with AA turned to FXAA or off).
I also like playing older AAA titles from like 2012-13, which the 770 has no trouble maxing out at full ultra settings.
I'll probably upgrade to a 970/980 when they're fall into the sub $150/$200 range, which will probably be sometime next year.

I don't plan to OC yet so I'm good with what I have. The games I own already run smoothly so I won't upgrade unless I need to.

@ereckgoose: your graph kinda can compare to mine but i got bettoer memory 8GB
@stoker: compare to mine , mine is better but you rocks on vega 3 SLI ! nitro R9 390x cant get sli or crossfire cuz its overclocked by default
@ereckgoose: since you have NZXT Source 530 you can add water cooling for only 60$ i guess

My RIG: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/privateereck/saved/Wxztt6

OR IF YOU ARE LAZY:
Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor
Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler
MSI X99A Raider ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
Seagate 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive
MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB 100 Million Edition Video Card
NZXT Source 530 ATX Full Tower Case
EVGA SuperNOVA GS 650W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply
Microsoft Windows 10 Home OEM (64-bit)

The mobo was bad despite it being on a good sale. Wouldn't recommend due to bad dimm slots
