I've been playing my I/L AM for about five years now. It was my second character i ever made (first was a terrible archer). I always keep coming abck to my i/l am, no matter what. when merc's and demon slayers came out i was annoyed and grinded them to 70 as fast as i could so i could play my i/l for all the events and whatnot. I have a lvl 145 Evan and a 140 bishop, they're nice but i still keep coming back to my i/l because i love it the best.

So it's probably my bias.
If a BaM is dealing more damage than you, it's because he/she's funded.

@quest5: I agree with you there, my level 106 battle mage, can hit 60k's with Quad blow
Your comparisons are correct, most of the UA classes have little to no advantage over their regular counterparts.

I tried a UA I/L mage and flame gear did nothing to improve my 1v1 situations.
See, but Flame Gear fits better with the F/P playstyle. Although DoT is utilized by I/L's, it is only used to get the boosts from Storm Magic, the playstyle is not reliant on the damage of DoT rather than just the presence. Using Ice Demon + Glacial Chain to get the bonus from storm magic is far more efficient than Flame Gear. I'm aware you probably know all that, but because F/P's rely on the actual damage from the DoT skills, then an extra DoT skill is definitely worth getting in my view, especially since it's so easy to make a UE. Taking the long way and getting Dews/the other etc however I'll agree that is not worth it, because you don't NEED flame gear to fully enjoy an F/P, it's just nice to have.

I have one and it's fun to me!

i love my f/p more though but I now i know which mage I'm moving to when I reach lvl 200 with my f/p and retire! (which would take a long time since I like never train anyway)

my only beef with gears bringing up our dps is this. (keep in mind i am a f/p ua and i do love my gears):

while in your formula gears does bring up our dpm, the fact of the matter is, by the time you set up gears around the map, spamming paralyze would have done more dmg.

for example, to gear crocky's bottom at lhc would take me about 5 seconds. in that time, i could have spammed 6-8 paralyzes all netting (with my range) about 450k x 6-8 dmg much more than the 11k x5 dps i get from gears.

also my mist already hits max dmg without gears. mist only needs two dots to hit its max effect and i find flame demon and poison breath much faster heck even big bang.

in conclusion, gears was great when i started at lvl 50 helped me kill jesters and i still use it under my mist and summon fire by exploding it. its just not practical over long periods of time at my level. if your looking to bring up you DoT tho, gears is great (see my name lol)

now OT: i love il mages as well and uhh yeah mages rule haha

@ClericBoyZ15:

You should be utilizing Chain Lightning, Glacier Chains, and Ice Demon for the most DPM. If you just use Chain Lightning you're missing out D:

@Abysseon: Thieves certainly get a useful skill. But by that logic, UA Buccaneers, Corsairs, Pages, and Bowmen are all not worth making because they have no advantages late game. Mages still have advantages all the way to 200, and even there they still benefit from the skill. It's not a particularly spectacular boost, but it is still present unlike the other classes I mentioned.

@Jacob9874: Ultimate Adventurers; or properly referred to as Ultimate Explorers. By reaching the level cap on a Cygnus Knight, completing all level 120 quests and an extra quest that involves searching for 10 fairly rare etc drops, one can create a level 50 explorer(Not a Cannoneer or DB though). It gets extra skills upon creation- One allows it to use equipment 10 levels higher than it, (Meaning you can equip an Elemental Wand 5~8 at 120, for instance) and a special version of a Cygnus skill. (All mages get Oz's flame gear) The attacking skill is counted as a beginner skill, and automatically upgrades every time you gain 10 levels at a max skill level of 5 once you reach level 90. Other benefits is that it receives two free sets of equipment (One at the start and one at level 70) and medal that has 2 atk/m. atk.
Bleve, a 200 godly f/p who has flame gear, stated it was not worth it on the f/p forums.

As of right now, its not recommended to make a UA mage or get the UA mage skill.

Of course this could change in future kms revamps.
He got it after he hit 200, and took the hard way to get it. It speeds up your training speed at LHC, and as stated above helps Mist Eruption. I fail to see how that doesn't warrant the creation of a UE F/P.

It's only really useful in PvP

That's because he already hits the cap without stacking all the DoT skills. But if your a average person, Flame Gear is a boost in your damage, its not a lot, but still good.

Im still funding my ice lightning 81% 188 magic attack staff with 32k range is great. Int % is not to overpriced and crazy so you wont have any problems getting it and ice lightning and glacier chain are just great for lhc I mean who doesnt wanna hit top and bottom platform with such a cool skill affect doing great damage.

It's great. The main focus of the class, I feel, is rendering monsters useless. Seal, freeze and stun makes it pretty much impossible for normal mobs to hit you. Coupled with some DoT attacks, we're one of the best (normal mob) grinders out there.

I made my I/L pre-BB, just I rarely play it now.

But most people I know who've made I/L's still play them.

Not necessarily the same as liking it, just semi-close.

My opinion is biased, but obviously I love my I/L Mage.
Chain Lightning is just such a cool skill, it looks nice, does
great damage, and it's super efficient when you're training
at LHC. I'm really starting to like Glacial Chain as well. At first
I thought it a little useless, but when I'm in the last few seconds
of Infinity and my Arcane Aim is stacked... I can hit some huge
numbers with it.
