Is this why people play opposite gender?

Specifically for online games?

If that's so...it's better off to not interact with people in the internet since most of them can be fake since anonymity is given by the internet as a shield for them to act / impersonate any kind of characteristic they want to be, yes?

Some men play as females to get more money and attention.
I always assumed guys make girl chars bc they don't want to stare at an ugly male char the whole time they play. I'm a girl and that's one of the things I like about making girl chars (I'm bi and mostly prefer girls) ie, dressing my chars in games cute/attractively, etc. I definitely wouldn't want to stare at a male char...which I tend to find ugly, if only because the options to dress them are routinely far more limited than for girls. Again, I'm referring to -all- games, not Maplestory alone.
I usually prefer male chars in MS, except for gender-biased classes like Kanna or Phantom, in which the male or female counterpart is kinda odd.
Or if they're just more badass as female characters, such as Hayato, Aran, and other edgy hotkey-smashing melee characters. For Hayato, I made a dark skinned character with a fab fro. It's the female afro samurai, basically.
I have nothing against male characters in Maplestory. I actually like the male ones better. Not for every class, tho, but for most classes.
I actually made male characters for Mercedes and Evan even though many would consider the female counterpart to be more fitting for the class.
I normally play male characters, but if the class is meant to be female (kanna/mercedes/jett) then I make them female. Other than those few exceptions I make my mules male because I have a few gender locked equips for low level training.
This. I only play as a girl if that's the story or they have my fighting style in a fighting game.

That's what you should expect, even in real life, in the non-cyber world--impersonation, deception, transgender, etc. The real world is not so different, just more physically vulnerable. Better off not get out of your bedroom then, since the world is so deceiving and fake.

Many of my characters are female simply because they might be cuter and/or more badass (girl power~) and may have different perks from male characters, or gender-locked, of course, which wouldn't be a choice of my own.

Note: didnt bother to watch the video

@Wall

I made Mercedes and Jett male characters lol

Female characters tend to have better customization options than male characters. That's really it for me... I don't play as a female to try and get help from desperate teens in-game, or because I want to act feminine, or catfish someone. I just want to make good looking avatars sometimes. >.<

I don't make any judgements about guys playing girl characters at all. When I first started playing Maple and was between like 8-10 yrs old...I only ever helped girl chars. Guys scared me as they did rl...and I only later found out most of those girls were prolly just guys. But yeah, I don't think anything of it. I wish more people...guys specifically...played Angelic Busters.

I get the feeling as if the thread was posted by a female just for attention.

Female characters have better aesthetic options in this game in my opinion when compared to male characters.

Men play as girls because it allows them to show a feminine side that's not publicly acceptable.
Women play as male characters to be taken seriously because women are disrespected a lot online.

EDIT: specifically in maplestory women play as men because there's an abundance of men's gear but women's gear is more rare. This may be outdated info though since a majority of gear that matters now is genderless.
