The true purpose of Retreat Shot

Retreat Shot can also be an alternative way of getting around maps instead of Double Jump 8D

@issacrandom: .....It probaly looks that way because of the vertical movement of the screen when your alternating but it shouldn't be a difference. But again, you can time it, perhaps i am doing something wrong, but so far my times are nearly identical for the skills.
IDK how you guys are timing but no, Covering is not faster than DJ. Try to go use DJ across an entire map while facing the other direction. You will not see a difference, there times are practically identical. While I havn't tested on Magnus or CRA because they are unavailable, I have never seen a video of a KMS BM using Cover in a Boss battle. I always wondered why, but after playing around, I found that the skills are pretty the same regardless of which direction your going.
Have you perchance tried alternating the two? I'm not sure if it's perception or not, but I feel as if retreat shot gets faster if you were going faster before hand (aka with double jump)
Retreat shot is faster that DJ in the sense that IF you want to go backwards you can tap it and you're instantly going that way, while DJ you have to turn around then jump and jump again. I haven't really used it for mobility because I usually do DJ, but I can see it would be very useful at bosses, especially moving ones for dodging, and especially for dodging one shot kills.

@bluebomber24: surprisingly, you CAN use hook after retreating shot, takes practice though, I get it once every dozen tries but I wasn't referring to chaining them, I just meant using them for horizontal movement
Honestly, I don't see the point of using Hookshot after RS, since you can use Hookshot in the air.

That's right... we can jump shoot properly now! 8D

Anyways, I'd see RS being useful in 2nd job for single targets (since it's a mini hurricane), but that's about it.
I feel retreating shot seems to be faster (if you just spam it and not use the attacking part of it); I basically use double jump's vertical movement more and retreating shot + hook shot to move around... We're much too mobile now
Covering Fire is not faster than DJ. And you shouldn't be able to combo Cover and Hook. You can combo DJ and hook however.

I just realized how helpful this could be at places like magnus :u

It's true purpose is mainly for slightly faster dodging at bosses.
