job applications

hi.

i'd like to know if putting a job i had before down as experience is a good idea. i had quit it because of some issues with a manager i moved in with and decided to walk out one day on my break.

if i put it down in an application i'm sure they'll call and find out what i did, though i never had any issues beyond that. or should i just put down that i'm trying to find my first job?

i think i f***ked up two interviews already with telling them where i work and what i did. one didn't hire me because he needed people willing to stay, which i planned on doing, but i guess he didn't believe my story on why i quit my previous job. the other was the same store just different location so i'm 1000% sure they called and asked about me, lmfao.

You should not leave out details of your employment history because having a gap in your resume is a red flag. Should you land an interview, you will be asked to explain either way why you were not working or left your job. The only instances where you should not list a past job is if you were working for a really short time or it was a job you had so long ago that it no longer has relevance to your current situation.

By law, your past employer if contacted can only confirm that you worked there. They cannot disclose any other information including the reason why you no longer work there. However, the interviewer can choose to ask you why you left your previous job and you should be prepared to answer this question.

You can listen to these. They're from a podcast show that has a specialty in hiring.

Hopefully you learned a lesson in not burning any bridges, especially if you don't have much experience or skill set to offer.

Leave it out. Employers hate it when they interview someone and they rant about their previous managers. They think that the person will likely say the same thing about them.

Just put the job down but make sure you have plenty of references.

I wouldn't leave out a job if you worked there for more than a year. Employers hate seeing time gaps on your resume (At least for larger firms), unless you have something to back it up. It's pretty much a no-hire. When I was going on interviews at multiple companies when I first came out of college. I could recall a handful that asked me "what happened in those 3 month gap period" .. and this was like a year ago.

As long as "issues with manager" wasn't work related and just personal. I think you will be fine. If anything you could be brutally honest and tell them why you quit.

If that's the case, I'd say just leave it out. Seems like putting in your previous work hurt you more than it helped.
