Why is american football called Football
I've been wondering about this today. Why isn't soccer called football and american football called football.. Like, in a lot of countries. For example, where I live. Soccer is called Voetbal, and in a lot of other countries it's called fudbal, futbal, futbol etc.

Americans and Canadians both call "handegg" football and real football soccer. I don't understand why the US gets all of the hate.
@yumtoast154 doesn't handball already exist? I agree that it should've been handegg!

@upermelvin:
>implying all of America is dumb because they failed to name 'football' as 'handball'
Stop making your own countries look bad.

Oh the irony!
Norwegian : Fotball
Fot = foot
ball = ball.
Problems?
We don't call baseball hand/gloveball... Plus the measurement of a foot (or rather really a group of 3 feet) Is one of the most important aspects. A foot isn't only whats connected to your ankle. And btw, in Spanish they call it "futbol" but the word for foot is pie, and ball is pelota, so that doesn't make much sense in the first place.
Well said, my friend
Soccer is called soccer from the name association football. That's what we call it since we got American Football. American Football is really only foot related in punting and kicking which is important in the game.
Football=Uses foot a lot.
American Football=Only does punting. I still love American Football though.
