Late to Game of Thrones

When it comes to TV shows, I am ALWAYS bloody late. Happened with Castle, happened with Suits, now it's with Game of Thrones.

So after watching the first episode (great theme song btw - already started watching parodies of the theme song), I'll conclude that it's a pretty decent show, which I reckon I'll probably continue to watch and get up to date with. One of the main factors in me continuing shows is the number of episodes per season (which is why I eventually stopped watching HIMYM, One Piece and other very long shows that I was just too far behind).

Now my question to Basil is, for those that already watch GoT/have watched it already but stopped, what were your reactions after watching the first episode? Loved it? Hated it? Wanted to continue to see how it went? And if you continued, what was the reason? Length of seasons like me? Boobs (pretty sure there's at least a few people who continue because of this)? Story? Characters?

I'm currently on the fifth book. Brilliant series, and I've gotten half way through watching the first season. Everything's on hold for now though because I'm studying for exams but holy moly, the books are good. I love Game of Thrones so so sooo much <3
Well, I loved it mainly because I was a huge fan of the books. You have no idea how excited I was when the show was confirmed. I think the first season had way more sex scenes than necessary, though some of them are actually important. I continued because I liked how well certain actors portrayed their characters. The story may or may not appeal to you- I don't know your tastes so you'd have to see for yourself. Second season was kind of worse, but the third season so far is doing better imo.
I agree, the 3rd season is by far the best season so far. I've heard people complain about the sex scenes as well but honestly it's HBO so what do people expect, and like you said many of the sex scenes are actually important to the story line.

I didn't read the books and I was kinda forced into watching it. I'll be honest, I was somewhat bored for the first 1-5ish episodes b/c it was hard for me to remember everyone's name. But now that I'm in Season 3, I'm glad I'm watching it. Great show.

Should I read the books before continuing the TV series? Just from the pilot episode alone, I can tell that a lot of effort has been put in to the show, but books always contain things that the show leaves out (the show can't include everything obviously).

I only watched it starting a month ago, it is so good! I just hate the gratuitous boobs and sex. It's really annoying, to be honest. But I guess the plot and the character development is good enough to keep me watching!

My sister had been trying to get me to read the books for over and year but I kept putting it off. I watched the second episode in season one with my friends and immediately thought it looked interesting, so I went and started reading the books. (I didn't want to ruin the experience by watching the show first) I'm done with the third book and I love the series :]
