That depends on what area you're sampling. If you're talking as a whole? Yeah, Dungeon Fighter became the biggest moneymaker for Nexon overseas (enough to overpower overall sales for their other games). But in North America it only ever had a cult following, and it didn't have sustaining sales. At the very best, it had a sales/popularity spike, but that's it.

Also... Dungeon Fighter didn't have much room to grow in America, and that's where the fanbase comes in. Maplestory at least has a moderate fanbase (bigger than DFO), and that means they can release alternative ways of making money. They have iOS games, facebook games, even a DS game at one point. A bigger fanbase means longer sustain in terms of profit, so that's why DFO failed here.

As for everyone else saying Maple will shut down similarly, it likely won't. Not yet anyway. It's still wildly popular, as to where DFO has been on a downward spiral for months, if not years.
It's also because they made the mistake of region locking it.

For those who don't like Maplestory and would like it to close down... Why do you want this to happen? I am asking honestly because it just does not make much sense for those who don't like Maple to say it should close down while saying this on a Maplestory forum thread.

If you people do not like it, you can always just, you know... Leave?

We'll know if ms is going to go down if we have an event awarding people from other games to play maple

Actually profit is exactly why they are shutting it down. Servicing the game costs money, and without enough players spending money on the game, keeping the game running can actually lose money. So more than likely, with the dwindling player base, the game was starting to cost more than it was making. From a business standpoint the smartest thing to do would be to cut off the bad limb, so the tree (profit) as a whole stays healthy.

I freaking hope so. I'm not going to lie, I am gonna be so happy if it does.

Maplestory has probably most of the DFO players, hell, I remember people playing DFO just for benefit events for Maplestory. I personally always loved playing my Gunslinger in DFO, got him pretty far too, though I did not spend as much money in that game as I did in Maple. Maple just seemed more fun.

With as many people in America that play this game, and I am pretty sure Maplestory has done overwhelmingly better, there is no way this game would close down anytime soon. The fact that people on this site and so many others are discussing stuff like this and are actually worried of the closing of Maplestory should show that there are still reasons for Nexon to keep this game going.

Even if this game does close down for some reason, there are many other games we can play anyways and this should not deter us from playing Maplestory or giving up on it, ourselves. Only reason I can see why it may close is for Nexon to release a better Maplestory. The interests and love for this game only grows stronger with all these communities made from it, and Nexon is well aware of this interest only growing more strongly, it would be a bad idea to close this game down!

@GazimoEnthra Everything with gaming company's is almost always to do with business.
Just because at ONE time it brought in more money than maple doesn't mean that it's been able to keep up with that.

Well if Maplestory does have a lockout, I'm gonna finish off my novel.

I highly doubt they'll close GMS. I mean why shovel them all into a game they are going to close next? Assuming they do that and have them buy NX from them for Maplestory, they'll just have to compensate them anyways and chances are they'll lose a lot of their customers in the process. And lastly Global Maplestory has been around for a long time and is a veteran of the english MMORPG genre, I once again highly doubt they'll shut it down.

Probably just someone who doesn't enjoy Maplestory and just want this game to shut down as well.

Maple is their most important game, if they come to the point where they have to close it down, that is a point where the company meets its ends.

Anyways, that must really suck for DFO players that have spent much time and effort into their characters.
