Help me look for the best laptop at my price

Its been a while since I was looking at new computer hardware and am oblivious to whats good and whats not
Now that Im moving on to university, its time to start looking for laptops. My price range is currently around $4000CDN ($500 give/take if very good deal).
Some things ill be using this future laptop for are education needs, surfing the internet (videos etc), and gaming (gta5, hawken, assassins creed, warface)
I also reside in Ontario, Canada if that helps
I need a laptop thatll give me the best bang for my buck

Comparable to the weight of two large textbooks.

Please, just build your own PC and take that with you to university. Laptops get REALLY REALLY REALLY hot and their cooling options SUCK.

But if you value portability, then don't plan to game hardcore on a laptop. Buy a cheap notebook to take notes in class, etc etc. And then BUILD your own PC to play games back in your dorm/apartment.

This is my advice.

@Burning: performance, speakers, battery life, looks - "best"

I can order online or walk-in to stores. I have ncix canada computers and a bunch of other small ones.
500GB-1TB prefer SSD>HDD
I might start watchdogs, would love to run it on HQ. CoD Advanced Warfare looks different might give that a shot, max settings with a good fps would be nice
I use VOIP, some programming stuff, surf the webs(videos etc), and other small games that would easily run if the above games could. I dont use 3d video editting software or stuff along those lines, just mainly studies/gaming

I would like a light laptop, but at the end of the day if it looks slim and sleek but is heavy n weighs a couple more pounds i wouldn't mind buying that over a dull large looking light weighted laptop.
15" would be nice, i find that 17" gets big for tables in the lecturehalls and I also cant find many bags that fit 17" nicely.
battery life is only important if Im on the go which would be the work week around 9am-1pm.
This laptop will be used in different ways; 1) where I would set it up where I have my desktop/tv connected then use the monitor/tv to stream whats on the laptop and 2)On the go in my backpack

Thanks a lot, help is really appreciated
ive bumped my price range to about $1500-$2000CDN (CANADIAN) I need the BEST laptops at this price
People throw around the word "best" like I can read their mind. What does "best" mean? Value? Performance? Mobility? Features?

Answer as many questions as you are willing. The information you provide will narrow down the potential computers I look at.

Can you order online? If you cannot order online, what stores are around you?
How much hard drive space do you want?
Are there any other games you play or want to play?
What other programs do you use?

Do you have a preferred laptop weight?
Do you have a preferred screen size?
Is battery life important?
To where and how often will this laptop be moved?

Mention any other special requests you may have. Be as detailed as you can with all your responses.

Laptops a couple years back used to be very far behind a dektop of similar cost and uncomparable.
However times change, laptops and smartphones are the most consumed tech products today which is what drives the price for performance down.

Heres a comparison LinusTech did recently with a laptop vs desktop Linus Tech Tips Asus G750 vs desktop
in the test a $2200 budget was used in a laptop and a desktop and there was only a 15%-25% difference in top end gaming performance

For your Lenovo-y50 $1,139 model, from scratch its going to cost you around $1000 in desktop components for similar performance, with something like a 750 ti, i7-4770.

Worse. II expect at least one more year before Lenovo's Y-series laptops come with a GPU comparable to your currently one-year old desktop.
Indeed I did. http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2600920/0/Help_me_make_a_custom_desktop.html

SSDs give a faster Windows boot up time and quicker file and program loading. SSDs don't contribute directly to PC performance, but they do make computer usage more responsive for office and work tasks. Some people place SSDs high up in their list for what should be in a computer, but to me, it's close to the bottom.

The Lenovo Y50 I see is using a hybrid solution in which both a small SSD and a traditional HDD are used together to leverage the advantages of both technologies.
How do you think the lenovo y50 matches up with the custom desktop? better same worse
So yea. I'm out for a week and I see nothing has changed around here. The typical Basiler either won't read "Canada" and or just do lots of writing without realizing that you just want this all plain and simple.

Here,
http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/?sb=:000001CA:000056A2:

Heavy like any other gaming laptop, but should play all the games you have listed on at least Medium.

Canada Computers has the Y50 with the 1 TB hard drive. If you do wind up going in-store, be on the lookout for the other models. Some do have useless features (there is no benefit of the 4 GB GTX 860M over the 2 GB GTX 860M with the 1920x1080 display.)
http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=710_577_1198&item_id=073492

Lenovo Canada has other Y50 models listed
http://shop.lenovo.com/ca/en/laptops/lenovo/y-series/y50/

The $1,149.00 model listed currently has the best bang for the buck.

that one is good. But your honestly not going to get any big differentials in prices. You honestly pay for what you get.
If you have a $800 and below budget, you can only afford up to a 750m/840m with a i5 1.7 - 2.5ghz, 40ish Fps on BF4 @ medium
If you have a $1000 Budget you can afford up to a 860m with a i5 1.7 - 2.8ghz, 100ish Fps on BF4 @ medium
if you have $1200 its same as $1000 but an i7 quad core instead of i5 and the 860m
If you have a $1400 Budget you can afford up to a 870m with a i7 2.4 - 2.7ghz, 120ish Fps BF4 @ medium
If $1700+ Budget you can pretty much get a 880m with a i7 2.7ghz+, 140ish Fps on BF4 @ medium

You could maybe save a hundred or two if you buy a Refurbished (used) laptop but that is a risk.
but these are the hardware you get depending on the price you pay if you want it new.
Will the $1000 budget suffice for my gaming needs?

It's cheaper but it's not as good. Basically, pay more = get more.
You can buy it, and use the other $250 in your budget for accesories such as a headset/gaming mouse/gaming keyboard.
I'm guessing you are not going to use the touch pad and the keyboard provided, are you?

Here you go!
I picked one that looked nice!
I picked one that fits your price!
I picked one that you can depend on!

I sound like an Apple customer.

No seriously, I don't know. It fits your budget.
Has a dedicated graphics card.
1920x1080 for nice big screen.
15" isn't bad.
2.8GHz isn't bad.
1TB HD isn't bad.
