The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock I've heard lots of different theories on what it's about, but it seems to be about a loser middle-age guy at a party who can't talk to girls. Could be more but it's definitely about that, at least on the surface It's a modernist poem as well, so keep taht in mind
"A Weekend in the Country" by Stephen Sondheim is so witty it's unreal. Lyrics Music
A favorite verse:
I've an intriguing little social item-- Out of the Armfeldt family manse. Merely a weekend, still, I thought it might am- Use you to know Who's invited to go, This time with his pants.
where "item" and "might am-" rhyme. Like who thinks of that. Geniuses do. And to top it off, the English is beautiful and that last kicker is really funny.
I would also recommend texts from Mahler symphonies/songs but they're in German so the artistry in rhymes etc is lost in translation
You can probably pull something from a Dr Seuss book and say how it was at a jab at World War 2 and Nazi Germany or some sort. Maybe even something from Shel Silverstein.
