1h if you can get ur mitts on a terminus shield
Swords give you +10% max crit dmg, maces give you 5% pdr.
Swords are better than maces by far damage wise because of this, but personally i prefer the mace animations.
2h weapons would be a bit stronger, but 1h weapons are faster so it's close to being about as strong as each other.
2h mace if you are poor, 2h sword if you got money to spend
