These.
I also feel that when songs connect with you with something other than just its music (ie. if they link to an anime/game that you like) you seem to enjoy/tolerate it much better.
Fun fact example: The only screamo and jazz music I have and will only listen to are related (directly and indirectly) to games/anime.

I definitely prefer listening to J-pop/anime music over mainstream music nowadays. And I think I like it better because I can't understand the lyrics. That makes it essentially background noise while I read manga. Whereas if I'm listening to hard rock or something and a good song pops up, I'll sing along to it and lose track of what I'm reading.

Well of course you can't understand them if you don't know Japanese.

Music is universal. I don't understand why people seem to think language is a barrier when it comes to music. (Not directing it to y'all specifically, just in general)
I mean, people look at me weird when I listen to KPOP or watch Anime and I'm just like

I liked japanese music a lot more than western music when I first got into anime. I found it to be new and catchy for the first couple of years listening to this stuff. Now after having listened to j-pop/anime OSTs for a few years, I'm pretty darned tired of it. Part of me feels frustrated that I can't understand the lyrics that I'm listening to despite the fact that I've grown accustomed to and have developed a familiarity for the linguistic sounds that make up the japanese language. The other part of me is just sick of listening to the infuriatingly high pitched and overly-peppy female vocals that often come up in anime OP/EDs. Well I guess I need to try chinese pop next.

I like listening to Eastern music because when i'm studying, I can't concentrate when I know what they're saying.

Also, Anime openings and endings have a nice message in their songs.

While in Western music the lyrics are all about partying, sex, and drugs that go along with the disgusting rap genre nowadays. Not trying to say all rap is bad, just like 95% of it is. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea.

Songs that are in English in anime are alright. It's more of the message in the song, and not the actual language.

I like Detective Conan's first opening and Yu Yu Hakusho's opening in English

I believe the TS is just saying in general he enjoys listening to OP/ED songs while not being able to understand them because they're in Japanese

Same goes for a lot of other people.. personally before I began watching anime I liked kpop and I never took the initiative to learn any of the words because listening to it was fine without understanding what they were saying. I still listen to IU actually, i think she's the prettiest face on this universe

The English Opening (first opening) of Ef - A Tale of Memories and Ef - A Tale of Melodies were pretty good - at least on par with the Japanese version, if not better.
The opening of Mushishi (which is in English) is pretty damn good.
The opening of SAO by AmaLee is pretty good imo, though it's not official
