What are your thoughts on Add and Adhd?

So Chat section, I'm doing a research paper for my Medical Science class about ADD and ADHD.

I see ADD and ADHD as being a disease that is completely overdiagnosed and is partially a product of an out of date educational system and lack of relevance in our educational systems. Yeah, of course there are people who honestly have a problem paying attention and seriously hinders them academically. But a lot of people fall under the population that were apart of the thousands that were "overdiagnosed" and really don't have a problem at all. I can personally think of 5 people off the top of my head who were diagnosed with the disease, and only take their meds to get high. It's absurd.

What are your thoughts on the matter?

Also, I have to get 50 people to take a survey I made. I thought you guys would make an all right population to question seeing how we are all from all over the world coming from various backgrounds and education systems. Here is the survey. It's completely anonymous and literally won't take more than a minute. It would help me out A LOT if you guys would take it.

ADHD shouldn't be a disease because the square root of 4 is 2 and what are we talking about again? o.o

Extremely over diagnosed, the drugs are abused, too much could be caused by bad parenting, but I still feel it's a legitimate problem to many.

@uiluj3: How I see it, the only difference in education over the past 200+ years is the introduction of TV, powerpoints, etc. into education. Otherwise, it has pretty much sitting, lecturing, and doing exercises, for majority of classes. Many kids just go in class, sit down, discuss the topic, and leave and possibly do exercises at home.

Kids are different now. Many kids don't go outside anymore, causing them to probably have a lot of pent up energy that wants to come out when they are in an environment placed with their friends (ie the classroom). So just sitting and lecturing won't cut it for those kids, I think classes should be more involved and kids should work with their hands a bit more to learn. Such as doing a real life example with people in the class, or doing a lab, or whatever.

Also, majority of the curriculum is completely irrelevant to what most people want to do with their lives. I know kids should be well rounded and whatnot, but I think there should be more room for kids to choose what they want to learn than the standard compulsory English, Math, Science, and History.

Note, it's just my take on it.

I honestly don't think ADD/ADHD should be considered a disease.

Basilmarket is a terrible place to harvest information for surveys. Just because a lot of the kids online are from different worlds and cultures doesn't necessarily make us diverse. We are all connected by the internet, and will obviously share traits accrued by being a kid sitting on his/her computer all day playing video games and trolling forums.

As for ADD/ADHD, I also think that it is an over-diagnosed phenomena that can be remedied by better parenting [those who are falsely diagnosed, anyway].
