New York City Ground Material
What material is the ground in NYC made of? I'm talking about the squares that are placed throughout the streets that are roughly 2.5 feet by 2.5 feet. I am writing a story and just wanted to be more specific. Thanks.

gum that people spit out
I thought you meant subway tunnels, I was going to say bedrock.
It's like a smoother gravel, layered concrete. unless you're talking about the sidewalks that shine in the sunlight, which might be better for your story, I would say concrete with granite mixed in there/granite
@KaoBolin: Thanks. I am just talking about the top layer. I did Google it but couldn't find an answer. So I went to Google images instead and started guessing. I tried "concrete ground" and a lot of different types of grounds showed up that weren't the one I am talking about.
@MeMagicalPie: Thanks. I am just talking about the top layer.
It's fine gravel concrete over soil in outer city boroughs
It's assorted sized pebbles in places the city isn't fixing (over soil ofc)
In the city, it's either the fine gravel again, or it's slate over cushioning material
Concrete, that has been layered upon one another for years and years. Back in the olden days, NYC used to be grassy ( Colonial Era ).
But Heck what do I know?
Couldn't you just have googled tour question instead of waiting your time, by logging in and asking us?
