My boyfriend is letting me pick his wardrobe

My boyfriend left for boot camp and he said that after he comes back he needs to update his wardrobe. Most of his clothes are from high school and he feels that they don't quite fit him right anymore and he said it be cool if I do his shopping since he does not know much about fashion. I don't really know much about fashion too... I just pick whatever I think looks good. He's into dressing nice and being groomed, so I have to choose clothes that would suit him. His budget is $1000, he's 5'11, very slim, green eyes, and dark brown hair. Yes I don't know what guy would ask his girlfriend for something like this.

So yeah help me in this...link stuff that maybe would suit him.
I'm clueless in men's clothing.

maybe a slim fit dress shirt, skinny jeans, a plain hoody. high top shoes, funny graphic tees, scarf if he is kinda in the feminine side, snap back hats, watch etc

made sure everything he buys is slim fitting. FIT IS EVERYTHING. Men's clothes should contour the body. He's probably in awesome shape so slim fitting medium shirts will look great on him

dark denim. Levis or Cheap Monday, probably $50-$80 just depending on where you get them and if they're on sale.
chino pants and shorts. Khakis are overplayed, so try different shades of brown, burgundy, mustard yellow, navy, etc
plain crew neck tshirts. American Apparel or ralph lauren
low profile, low cut shoes. plimsolls, boat shoes, etc. high tops are so 2008

@Cbass50 is killing it with the black bomber, polka dotted shirt (all over patterns are back in), and chambray shirt. a+ would wear

@airforce1: It's warm and breezy over here. :>
All the guys seem to be into the collared shirts so I'll throw in alot of those.

@EquineBM: Oh I love those. Going to get two pairs of those.

@Cbass50: Yeah compared to my budget for clothes...I think I am going to grab that jacket, it looks perfect for this windy weather. :>

Try American Eagle for jeans (sub to them via email to save money, they have sales and stuff all the time).
H&M is good too.

Get him a lot of simple jeans, dress shirts, simple looking hoodies (maybe 1 or 2 that stand out a lot), and yeah lol. Just go shopping and see what ever catches your attention, just remember that expensive doesn't mean it will look good.

IMO just get a few basic jeans, tees, and sweaters then go shopping with him when he gets back and make a day out of it.

@pollood: Oh that makes more sense lol. What kind of weather do you have there?

I personally like wearing jeans with a V neck or T-shirt and unbuttoned collared shirt over it for most days.
This is a perfect description of me except I have blue eyes... scary.

You would know what he likes to wear better than we do. Since he wants something "new" and apparently has an opinion on clothing, I'd just go shopping together... It's not like you can really try things on for comfort without him there anyway.
That is scary maybe you can be his twin.

I just wanted some options from a guy's point of view. He kind of wants the surprise element of me picking since it be more fun and keeps me occupied.
his bootcamp sounds like paradise, it wus one of the hardest things i did in my life, but honestly wardrobe depends on what kind of person your bf is
He has feminity quality about him, hence him wanting to be more fashionable these days.
Actually it's pretty tough there, alot of intense exercises, tests, and broken bones. He just survives by being a wallflower and keeping his mouth shut.
since i got back from boot camp 4 months ago, besides clothes, take him out to eat really good food, he'll appreciate that alot, since he wont have junk food for over 2 months, nice warm jacket is a life saver depending where his boot camp is
I plan to already when he gets back.
actually they give big macs if you score high n the tests over there as a reward. So he is somehow surviving. And he is at the great lakes.
How was boot camp for you?

Just go into H&M if you have absolutely no idea what to get him.

Stay away from Hollister, Abercrombie, Aeropostale, American Eagle, etc.
Which boot camp? If it's the Marines, he'll fit a size 34 jeans and medium t-shirts once he gets out if he's a size 28 jeans and small t-shirts. I know because I am 23 and just recently got a medical discharge.
Haha Naval Boot Camp at the Great Lakes. He is really small compared to the guys there. His size is 30.

Okay thank you. I will add it to my list.

Go for a few pairs of coloured chinos and a few pairs of dark/blue jeans to even it out. Keep it simple by getting some white/black/grey t-shirts, you could even get some coloured ones as well. Layer those with some nice oxford button-ups or plaid/checkered shirts. I'd also suggest buying few hoodies and pullovers. Maybe throw in a cardigan and a nice leather jacket or overcoat as well.

As for shoes, I'd suggest black vans because they go with everything. You can also grab a pair of boat shoes too because they're classy enough for evening wear yet still great when combining with shorts and a t-shirt.

If you still have money left over, get him a nice accessory. A navy or black scarf is great as it goes with most outfits and gives off a 'manly' vibe too. Or you could get a him a pair of wayfarer sunglasses, those are pretty in right now too.

As you can see, I'm a bit of a fashionista
essentials: basic fitted tees/v-necks (white, black, navy), long sleeved sweaters & button-ups, hoodie, jacket, blazer, suit & tie, slim fit jeans, dress pant, khaki pant, sneakers, boots (leather, desert)

ill-fitting clothes are the worst. simple works best.

I think when you do buy him stuff, throw a male thong/g-string in with it and see what kind of reaction you get.
