Road Bike Experts Come

What is the best road bike (NO FIXIES) I can get UNDER 300. I'm approximately 5'4 in height so what size fits me?
I'm currently looking at
http://www.target.com/p/schwinn-men-s-700c-tourist-28-road-bike-red/-/A-13241183#prodSlot=medium_1_1
or
http://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-Commuter-Shimano-Speed-Bicycle/dp/B008CE6RP8
Why does the Target one have only 24 spokes?
Which is a better ride OVERALL?
Ahh. So a 50cm bike or a 54 cm bike could be the same height? Will I be able to fit the 54 cm bike if i lower the seat?
they won't be the same. I think a 54 cm frame would be too big for you. lowering the seat too much will make your stance while you hold the handlebars really awkward. good fit is key.
well you don't want to be standing while sitting on the seat anyway. bad for your arse and it's easier to just move off the seat and stand. it sounds silly, I know, but you'll have a much more enjoyable ride once you get the hang of it.

crotch to the end of your pants. the length of your legs is more important than your actual height.
Lol, I don't really wanna stand on my toes while im sitting on my bike. The amazon bike doesn't say anything about inseam length my leg length is approximately 29-30cm
it's a measurement of the tube where the seat is placed, from the center of the bottom bracket(pedals/cranks) to the top of the frame.

Thanks man, i'll keep those in mind! I'm still a bit confused on the sizing. You mentioned that since i'm 5'4, a 50 or 52 cm would fit me well. Is that the length from the seat to the brakes/handlebars or the height of the bike itself?

How about the wheels on the amazon one compared to the target one? What size would I be if i'm 5'4? Would i be 50cm or 54 cm
they're probably fine wheels. for sizing 50 or 52 cm would be good for you.

good way to test is to stand over the bike without sitting on the saddle. if your crotch can clear the top tube with about 1 inch of space, it's a good fit.
spokes can be arranged differently for weight, strength, and aerodynamics. on that price-range, I would be weary though.

the one on amazon is slightly better. still, I'd recommend looking at the bikesdirect's bikes in your price range. they'll be a better value.

If you were to have to choose between those two, which would you choose? I'm on a tight budget nor am I a serious rider, so a 200-300 dollar bike will suit me fine. and Why does that Schwinn Target bike have uneven spokes?

first of all, both of those bikes are junk. bad components, bad frames (alu w/ hi-ten steel fork, really?).

300 won't get you a new road bike worth riding. you can however get a perfectly decent used bike from the 80s with that price range. if you know what you're looking for, and are willing to learn a thing or two, you can get an older high-end bike that will be much better than the bikes you linked. I can tell you what you need to know.

if you're set on buying new, go for bikes direct. they're name-brand frames without the brand and markup. the components will be identical depending on the range.
