I'm planning to get a new laptop for university next year. Which one would be best for just regular school work? Im torn between the ultrabooks vs macbook air/pro ); Which are your preferences in general?

With momzilla checking on me 24/7 at home, I can't really slack off xP

@RawrKinsz: Oh, I'm basically the opposite. I purposely stay on campus longer to get work done, since once I go home (I commute), it's just not a work environment and I am so much less productive lol. Like, I'd almost never check basil on a public computer

@DrHye lol! sorry, nice catch. I understand that it's cost efficient yet for studying purposes and efficiency, I rather have my own personal laptop to use. Plus I'm a person that can't complete assignments, essays or studying well when I'm in a public place, I get to distracted ;X
@dimo Yea, i've noticed that too.

Most academics (at least in science) use Mac Books, since I doubt Professors care about the "hip" factor, there must be a reason why they prefer MAC. Just food for thought.

Disclaimer: I have ever only purchased/owned PCs, but have used MACs extensively for work purposes.

Well then I guess I'd recommend a Mac.

@RawrKinsz It saves a ton of money, there's pretty much no risk of anything as long as you remember to sign out of places and/or restart the computer, etc... Even if you're not the one paying for it, why spend the money when you're given free resources to use?

@2566 no idea, i hate it how it boots up and loads so slowly. and LOL yes, that's what my parents say too so thats why they're like how they don't care about the price, as long as it could handle me. lol. so back to the whole issue, which one it better?
@2566 excuse me? dont judge. I have to put up with the blue screens, black screens, viruses, random freezes, really slow loading and random shut downs when I'm doing my essays along with many more. ._.
All that happening with Microsoft Word and perhaps a browser for research?

LOL! You are a monster stay away from computers.

Is it your first year of university? In my first year, I learned that I could do all my computer-related homework in my university's library or tech center if I wanted. If you're buying this laptop solely to do homework/papers, save yourself the thousand bucks.

Don't be a dumbass and no laptop will ever break down on you.

Unless it's a Dell. Dells suck.

I was always a PC guy, but ever since I got my Macbook Pro I've been very happy with it. I have Windows installed on it for when I play games (which I don't do much anymore), and it handles a lot of my games on medium-high settings very well, even though I only have a 256MB video card; the new Macs have way better video cards. I also like how I've never had a problem with my Mac: no viruses, no slow speeds, rarely lags, and hosts nicely all of my music programs for writing and editing. If you think you'll be doing any heavy gaming, though, go with a PC with jacked up parts.

When I asked future shop people, they said mac. I'm assume they just want to make a sale. When I asked friends from uni, they said mac since there light, portable, durable, less virus and etc. They might be abit over priced but are they worth it? I have two laptops. Both of them are PC, i have a toshiba and hp and both of them continuously have issues.

For just regular schoolwork? I would say Macs as I prefer OSX over Windows 7. Besides you can't get yourself distracted with games on a Mac.

Both have bad specs for the price.
Don't understand why any logical person would make the purchase for a Mac either unless they will actually benefit from having OS X over Windows.
