"You idiot!" Connotations in language

Hi guys, I am working on a paper about the connotations of two synonymous words. I decided to write about the words "idiot" and "moron". because they have interesting histories. I have to talk about how they have different levels of insult, and that made me curious. Which would you feel more insulted/hurt by?

I use idiot more seriously than moron, so idiot would affect me more.

"Mor" root of Moron. Usually means fool or idiot.
"Soph" is a root which means clever or wise.

Guess what Sophomore means

I used "idiot" in an insulting way myself, so I'd feel more insulted if someone called me that.
