Im a Pretty Funny Guy
I was talking to the black girl I've been seeing all summer today. We're at the point now where we're not just hanging out and having fun, we're like learning about each other's lives and getting a more intimate emotional connection.
We were talking about what colleges we applied to when we were in high school because she goes to school in Canada when she's from Brooklyn. I mentioned how I got rejected from my #1 school which was Stanford and it broke my heart. She said how she's always wanted to go to the West coast and see some stuff because she has a few friends in LA (a whole 2) and she said that they seem to have lots of fun there.
I told her how I went to California (near Oakland) March of last year to visit my ex best friend (didn't mention that I met him on a Korean video game made for little kids).
She was like, "The bay?" And I realized that she meant like the Bay Area, but not before I replied with, "No, I never dated him."
She burst out laughing.
And that's pretty much what it's like hanging out with me.

Oakland is near San Francisco Bay Area, so when he said Oakland, she immediately thought "Bay Area", therefore she asked "The Bay?". OP be thinking she meant "Bae", the slang for a person one is dating or endears, therefore he reply by saying he is not dating another dude.

The good thing is that you have a friend that genuinely cares enough about your feelings that they are willing to laugh at your jokes. The downside is that you're not funny.
