Is Destiny playable without DLCs?

I've stopped playing since "The Dark Below" DLC came out; one reason because I had school work, but another is because I thought that those with the Expansion Pack have an advantage over those. Now I don't really go in depth of how a game works to see the actual difference, so I was wondering if there is one between players that don't have the DLC's and those that do.

I'd love to start leveling up a new character on Destiny again, but will it still be as fun in the later levels (around 27-30 ish)? In other words, would it still be fair? I care for looks secondly after the gameplay, so the DLC armor are not something I really finesse for. Thank you for your time reading this, and thank you more if you respond.

Also, i'd like to know if the new maps and modes are free for every player. If it is, i'd definitely begin to lean over to playing again! I've missed a few months of playing.

Everything is unplayable without DLC that's another reason I gave up on video games.

The game is irrelevant without the download content, and the only thing keeping it alive is the two prolonged DLC'S. The game in the beginning was fun, which somewhat lived up to it's hype but overtime it just became even more tedious than Maplestory. If you want your bang for the buck, you should grab Borderlands Handsome Collection. If you found Destiny fun, then this is just as or even more

I loved this game so much, I stopped playing due to the lack of content. The only reason i played was to do my nightfalls and do raids, i have pretty much all the exotics and max level on all my characters. There's nothing to do in Destiny now.. nothing
