Purchasing a Gps?
So I recently started driving, and I've missed the right street a couple of times, Im thinking of going with Garmin because of the lifetime map updates. I dont want to use my phone because I only have 100 mb/month, and if I get a call while driving, the screen will switch. Anyone owned one of these? and how do you like it?

garmin
If only real life had a map in the corner like games.
(Too much gaming).
I don't use a GPS so I wouldn't know, but when I print out map directions I use a large map as part of the directions and zoom in to the end of the destination so I can see some of the streets that come up before and after the street I need to turn on, that way I can know once it's about to come up or if I passed it without realizing it. But most of the places I go are around LA and I know my city well enough to know where majority of the main streets are. So I'm not sure if that's why it works for me lol. Worth a shot to try that method until you decide on a GPS though.
What model do you have?
Well I've been looking at Garmin and TomTom, my budget is around $130-180. Bestbuy has sales on them sometimes for $30 off, maybe even more after christmas. My car is 2014 model but didnt include navi. I was also thinking of buying a dash kit which has built in navi, touchscreen, satellite radio etc, but thats gonna be over the $1k range to install it and everything, and Im not sure I want to mess around with electronical and wiring. My main concern is just lifespan and age of it.
Well I used mine for about 3 to 4 years and it still works, so I don't think there's any problem with the lifespan. Try buying one on Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

I got one a couple of years back and it was SO SLOW ! It'd take forever to calculate the route and would often mess up. I've heard that TomTom has more information and is a lot more accurate. But I haven't had any personal experience with it since I ended up just getting a new car with a built in GPS. Then again, my Garmin was pretty old, so they might be a lot better now. Either way, you aren't going to get any decent GPS's for less than $350, so check both of them out and see which one you like better
I got one from a couple years ago.
If you want to go on a road trip I suggest printing a supplementary directions map from the internet along with the GPS.
My GPS hasnt been updated in a long time, so sometimes its frustrating when it leads to dead ends and weird turns.
Even if your GPS has been updated sometimes it still messes up.
There are many times where my gps actually didnt help me, instead it lead me the wrong way. I already knew the way back home from college, but I turned on my gps just in case. Bad idea.
I usually just end up screen shotting directions on my phone before I leave.
