There actually were well documented(primarily on the old SW website) cases where a database breach was definitively something that occurred. This was around 2010. I was involved and in my tickets with Nexon their breach and the fact that this was their fault was acknowledged more than once. Anyone - anyone at all - content to deny this and blame it on anything else is simply sticking their head in the sand and/or naive. That is what happened. If it happened once, it can happen again.

I mean its kinda the users fault, he probably gave out some info related to his account in some way, so yea sorry for his lost i guess but he should learn from it and never give any info to people on MS or the internet in general

This sort of thing happens every year or so. At some random interval, a bunch of people will come forward saying their accounts have been stripped, and no one takes them seriously in every single instance. Everyone just assumes that it's a user problem in every single case. And that's fair -- honestly, most people are stupid about protecting their information.

But Nexon has had security issues in the past, so they aren't exactly fort knox, either. Remember a few years ago, when someone released a pastebin full of compromised usernames and passwords? You could go down the list, just trying different names and passwords. Sometimes they worked; sometimes the information had already been changed. I looked into a few of them myself, out of morbid curiosity, and most of them were old mule accounts, or accounts that clearly hadn't been touched in years, if their outdated armor meant anything. You can make the claim that thousands of inactive accounts' users all decided to start filling out phishing sites and downloading keyloggers at the same time, or you can look at the company with a shoddy security history and wonder if maybe they need to step their game up a little bit when this sort of thing happens every year like clockwork. Just saying.

Oh, boohoo. In most cases, it's their own doing somehow.
